OBDII splitter

I will be using my OBDII port for the power supply and speed data to my Valentine I radar detector. i would like to add the P3 vent integrated digital interface as well. It also plugs into the OBDII port. Does anyone have any experience using an OBDII splitter?

Hi,

I use an ODB2 splitter all time the time. Mainly for reverse engineering.

Really all you need is CAN Hi/Lo and V+/V-.

Forgive my ignorance but are those specific pins within the OBDII?

Yes, those are pins within the connector. Modern BMW's only use the CAN pins and power.

I use one of these:

If I were to do something a little more permanent something smaller/more elegant is a better idea.

Thanks. After reading a few other threads about splitters, it sounds like both devices can't communicate simultaneously. Guess I'll just use a mirror tap for the V1.
