BMW Apps, anyone using

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Is anyone using this? And if so, are you using it via USB or snap-in?

I have this option on my car (confirmed by dealer, and BMWVIN) but i see none of the apps listed, just a 'BMW Apps Connection Assist' to get it connected up.

That works fine by usb, but i have no twitter, facebook etc anywhere in iDrive to select? Confused again

Those apps are part of "Connected Drive" features which requires 6NR combi box to be installed to allow you use the apps directly on idrive system.

I tried the iOS app with my friend's car and it works fine but to be honest the apps have no value to me. Only thing is Internet radio which I simply run the app on my phone and connect it to the USB and play through the audio system.

I have 6NR combi. And the BMW Apps on my menu. Just when I connect my device nothing happens. Maybe I need a snapin adapter?

I have it and used it for about 2-3 days then got bored with it. Mainly since its so buggy and incredibly stupid design.

Has to be the most pointless option I chose...

BTW your phone, if iphone, has to be connected via USB or snap-in adapter. Also the app must be running, cant be in the background.

All this integration with smartphone will change a lot now IOS has the in-car feature. We might not get to see it on our current cars but future cars will. I know BMW has sign up to develop and integrate it into their cars.
And just to stir the pot, this will be for IOS only. Not android, which has probably leaked all your data by now and being sold to lots of people. Or used to access your online accounts.
And it does leak data!!!!! And yet is still so popular. Very strange.

I am also a computer engineer, and I stay far away from IOS, like most people. Will there be any significant IOS market share left once the car interface is on the market?

Spoonflames, you are correct. There is no Android version which is no bad thing at present.

I work for the 5th largest telco in the world in the security team. Not a single architect here has an Android phone.
Plus the heartbleed issue is a problem for Android.

I am not say IOS is perfect but the whole ecosystem is more secure.

Something to think about when choosing your next smartphone.

It only affects the old Android 4.1.1.
And I think it is rather naive to assume that information is safe on an IOS phone. I guess it is less interesting to hackers since it is has a low and sinking market share, but I would not buy a phone based on that.

I have an m235i with connected drive.

Phone plugs in via charging cable.
Go to connected drive
Turn on app on phone
Connected drive assist will say "app connected"

Then click and it'll load all your apps including twitter and facebook and any add in apps like mtimer, tunein, glympse etc

I do this I get nothing. The app connects on my phone but going into diagnostics it says "no active connection" and no bmw apps appear in connected drive. I do have 6NR and the BMW Apps is present in the menu just no apps (because it hasbt detected the phone / and "BMW Connected " phone application.

I mean if this wasnt supposed to work on android. Why is there an app available for it? And why sell samsung snapin adapters. This is supposed to work.
