You would think they would contact everyone who has f20 for rust repair but not heard anything in the uk about it yet.

Maybe they will simply add an inspection to the work list when the cars come in for a service. That way they can fix it without telling anyone, just the way Toyota often deals with such issues.

BMW typically says and does nothing until the customer complains about known "non-critical" faults like. I figure they rather keep it quiet.

hello, just to give you a feedback on my experience. My seats were also rusty, I went and took appointment to get this settled.

After a day in the concession, my seat base where replaced by new ones (not the hole seat i think, but the part below)

Went to my dealers this morning, they have NO modified bases available from BMW, all they can do is replace them with the original BMW part. I have declined this as the same will probably happen. Will wait and see if BMW release a modified part.

... and god knows how many 1-series owners never bother to look underneath their car seats. This is what BMW are hoping for, nobody examines underneath their car seats.

We need the main-stream press to pick up on this story. But they are always biased, as BMW places so much ads with them, so they will never run any bad story on BMW.

There is no E36 called 135i. Do you mean 325i?
I went the opposite direction, from E36 to F20. I sometimes miss the engine response and sound of the naturally aspirated straight six, but the seat frames don't bother me at all. I haven't even looked under the seats yet! :-)

I went in with my car to my dealer in october to get the rust sorted. They told me then they had no solution yet.

Today I called them again, they say BMW has no solution yet. This has to be a joke? Surely they solved this issue on newer cars, why not just take the parts those have and fit on mine....

I keep reading ppl from other countries got this sorted even a few months ago by BMW in their country. It seems BMW in Sweden is full of shit.

I called my dealer today to book in my wifes and my car for other faults that need rectifying on our F20's today and asked what was happening about our rusty seat bases? "I don't know was the answer" so as a premium car buyer I asked them to please contact Germany before I write an official complaint to them!
That seem to put the Cat amongst the Pigeons as I then had no less than 4 phone calls from Dealer management apologising for not keeping me informed and updating me as they got more information.
What they are saying is that in early February 2013 a repair kit will be available for prematurely corroded components, I quizzed this and I think I was told a bit to much information, they said that it was for seat components, door locks, some internal panels and other parts that are corroded on production of F20 from Oct 2011 to Oct 2012 which includes F30 models as well! That must be a few hundred thousand vehicles to repair!

Amazing what info you can get out of the right people, lets see what happens next!

No rust under my 11/2012 But it looks like it has a different coating/surface treatment than the rusty ones.

I sadly report rust also in my car (almost first batch of F20).

I informed about this (no reaction), but didn't talk about seriously about it with my dealer… yet!

So far, it seems that the problem has been resolved for cars manufactured from November-December 2012...

Yes, i think so... What will BMW do with this problem? Will they recall cars?

Indeed, is there any official statement? Procedure?
