Started the bird in the backyard with a chicken. Went all Looney Tunes and brought out my little hatchet. I'd have had better luck with a hammer. So, OK, let's get a shovel and jump on its neck, that will take his head clean off. Nope, simply shoved him in the hole in the grass. Finally got a sharp knife, sliced his neck, and he bled all over me, including spraying me with the blood by flapping his wings.

Then I moved on to helping Santa (wife's co-worker looked like Santa) slaughter 50+ lbs dressed turkeys. Burlap bag, hung them upside down, head thru the little hole, slice the neck and bleed them out into the keg tub. I have video at home.

That sturgeon I caught that was 6'3" I let go, and it swam back into the Fraser river.

Killed a cricket in the garage last night.
Tough little bugger. Didn't die when I hit him with a water bottle several times. I don't want him coming into the house. All I need is a cricket to start singing at 2am when I'm sound asleep

No, as in bad logic. "Illogic" is not a real word, but w the growing grey areas these days allowing made-up words nowadays.

Anyway, nothing to do w being stubborn but being rational. Convince yourself instead, because if you believe his post, then anytime you have a 33% chance of cancer, might as well put a bullet in ya, cuz it's actually doing you a favor. Like I said to that guy, cmon.

He's right. I'm not for hunting animals for sport, most of the hunters I know use as much of the animal as they can, and are good stewards to the land.

With that said, a shot to the heart/lungs is MUCH better than any other way it will die. I can only assume by your statements that you've never seen a deer dying from CWD, starvation, or being eaten by coyotes. That is usually how they die.

Not to mention that hunting is a part of conservation. Without hunting and the purchase of hunting licenses funds would not exist to create good habitat for wild animals. Without hunting we would eventually have an overpopulated heard of xxx animals that would not be very healthy. Without hunting and population control we would have more deer, moose, elk etc getting hit on our roadways. There are tons of measures in place to make sure that the balance is held in check for the greater good of the heard, land and humans. Take pigs for example, they are highly destructive and overpopulated in many areas. They breed far faster than we could ever control even hunting them.

Reducing hunters and sportsman to people that randomly shoot animals to be macho is incredibly offensive. I have no idea the mouths I have fed that would have gone hungry otherwise if it were not for donating whitetail deer to families over the years. Do I hunt for trophies? You betcha but is only part of the process. Feeding, planting and maintain a good habitat with the hopes of shooting a mature buck is a greater part of the equation.

How about we don't judge something we don't know anything about? I could say how pitiful I think it is for a grown man to feel bad about squashing a bug but that would be equally insulting and wrong.

#1 we are talking about animals. Animals don't have hopes and dreams they don't have plans for the future. They live in the moment. This is a HUGE difference between animals an humans and one of the reasons it's so sad when a human dies. All those hopes and dreams die with them.

#2 a wild animal doesn't have a 33% chance of cancer... I don't even know what you are talking about. Wild animals have a 100% chance of dying a horrible death being eaten by a predator or slowly dying of diseases/injury. That's how wild animals die it's just a fact.

As humans we empathize with animals as if they were human, we project human feelings and emotions onto them but they are not humans and if you actually think logically about how death affects an animal vs a human it's completely different.

From an animals perspective I'm chilling eating grass then I'm not vs I'm chilling eating grass then I get mauled alive by a predator or get some kind of diseases and suffer for who knows how long until I finally drop dead... its one of those two options, there's no 3rd option where I die comfortably in bed of old age with my family having accomplished all my goals and dreams.

BTW all that being said I still felt bad when I shot that bore in the heart, but I can also think about it logically.

It was a lake trout in the Flat Tops north of Glenwood Springs, Colorado in 1964.

It's so long ago now that I can't say I really remember, but I'd guess that eating it made me feel good. You know, the way a tasty meal generally does?

My apologies for leaving out part of the question in the original post. What did I feel when I shot the hundreds of deer, thousands of fowl, hogs, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and countless other species? Recoil
