For most extremely high performers, the answer to that question is "just a little bit more." It is not a set number, it is more. Go farther. Accomplish more. Aspiration or ambition is not about a destination - it is a never-ending process. It drives some mad. Others are able to use it in healthy balance.

Edit: Basically, what I am saying is that this type of ambition is hard to turn off. You just keep moving the goal line.

These .1%ers are probably laughing at the recent polls in here.

"Home Value" poll with only 12 people living in over $10 million homes and "How much Cash you carry" poll only going up to $100k and the "Do you think Amanda Martin is hot" poll.

My buddy is very modest, and busts on me based on our zip code...yeah, maybe I mean we went for the location to the third power rule and therefore have a smaller home is a nicer area...

Anyway we visited his family and his house is maybe 3,000 sq ft, < 10 yrs. old and perfection. Meaning the person who built it had everything upgraded, kitchen, baths, swimming pool, EP Henry driveway, patio, blah blah blah...that's pretty sweet being turnkey. That is "enough" for me, and seriously, sticking to a northeast location, it may not be achievable (he's in Tampa FLA, less than 1/2 the price in general)...even the cookie cutter 3,500 sq ft homes where I live have < 50% of the character, and cost a pretty penny with high property taxes...yet this is garbage to the 0.1% lol

Pshh thats a poor mans look at it!

No wealthy person says 2400 sq ft is more than enough besides the frugal! If i had money id have a spacious layout and probably 5,000 sq ft ish. My personal gym and movie theater alone, would be 1250+ sq ft...

Now do we need that space? Of course not. If i had the money though, you bet i'd have some pretty over the top stuff!

everytime i buy a lottery ticket i think of how big my house is going to be even though my current house is way more than enough (4k sqft). I havent been in a couple rooms since I bought it a year ago. But if I had a huge mansion, i sure as shit would be using some of those far away rooms. My wife would never be able to find the mistresses with all those rooms.

We could definitely use more space, but not necessarily more rooms. I'd like bigger closets and more storage space, much bigger kitchen and bathrooms, a 3-car garage instead of a 2-car, and Wifey would love more wall space so she could have more bookshelves. But 4 bedrooms for just the two of us is fine. As it is, we each have our own "office" room plus the spare bedroom.

If I won anything less than $10mm, I would live in the same house but buy a couple places overseas.

If I won more, I'd probably just buy this place and a couple places overseas.

That's what it's like to drive down A1A in Palm Beach. All these huge mansions with no one in sight. A lot of times many of them will have the windows shuttered up meaning this is just one of their many houses for a couple months out of the year. Usually the only people you see are the people doing maintenance.

My house is like 2500 sqft and I spend 90% of that time in my 300 sqft office. There's one room I never go into and a living room I never use.

Before this one we saw one that was like 3500 sqft we were like wtf would we do with this shit? Maybe if you had 12 kids or something but I'm sure most of these 0.1% don't.

My friend's friend's kid ran into Vanilla Ice at PBI just last week, and snapped a selfie with him.

Most of the houses these people own are a vacation getaway, but also a historically safe way to park some money and make a return. Sure, you can invest money another way, but if I had a spare $20 Million laying around and I could just not touch it and go stay at a sweet place whenever I wanted and then trade it in for $30 million later, I'd be all in. Of course, recent trends in real estate could change the view of real estate as a fool proof investment. In FL, it is even a little better. OJ moved here back in the day because there is a state law preventing someone from taking your primary residence as payment for lawsuit. So, here, it is not only an investment, but it's a protected one.

*Of course, this is a simplified version, because they don't really pay cash, they use leverage which actually has a ratchet effect on the return, but I figured that and the servicing cost on the asset roughly cancel.

That reminds me. I saw him once also at this taco truck place. No one there seemed to have a clue who he was. He was standing next to the area where they make the bbq corn and some lady comes up to him and tries to hand him a dollar for a corn. He was like I'll be happy to take your dollar but I don't work here.

Is Donald Trump considered part of the %0.1? Probably.

Some of his golf courses are considered "farms" and receive all the tax breaks and benefits that come along with it, simply because they "make hay", or "herd goats". The result? Little to no taxes on expensive multi-million dollar properties.

Just sayin. Must be nice to be %0.1 and think you know what's best for the other 99.9%

Not defending the guy at all. But I always laugh and feel I have to call bullshit when people complain about someone (they don't like) using loopholes. I suspect if most people of any political stripe were told by their tax advisor that they could legally pay X or 3X for a tax bill, they'd say "I'll take the little number, thanks."

This falls squarely in the "don't hate the player, hate the game" bucket.

This is the difference between real knowledge of the tax code and complaining about someone that is taking advantage of said tax code. This is somewhat akin to asking me how I acquire my vehicles. I've paid cash, I've financed, I've leased...it all depends on the best situation for the acquisition of that vehicle relative to the prevailing tax code.

Check out this impressive pad, in the City of Westminster, central London, England. We are talking prime South West 1A postal code here.

It is over 721,000 sq ft !

The current owner also has a castle ... you read that right ... a 590,00 sq ft castle, set in 5,455 acres of parkland, just 22 miles down the road, in Windsor.

And you will scarcely believe that she has ANOTHER castle, in Scotland, with one of the largest deer and game hunting estates in the whole of Great Britain : approximately 50,000 acres.

Incredible ... imagine the size of the flat screen you would need in the main living room ... simply wow !
