116i is traded
On a new Active Tourer 225xe M Sport. Arrives 22 June in port. It will be the first on the road in NZ.
6.7s 0-60mph time not bad at all. I've enjoyed the 116i and now our year old 220i convertible will be our car of fun with the top down and the new 225xe will be the run around car as it's allowed in bus only lanes and all carpool lanes with only the driver. Kiwi has "left us all by ourselves": driving topless at first and now by bus.
That's amazing. It reminds me of an ancient joke (adjusted): "-You came by bus, I presume. -It's difficult to buy a car these days. So I bought a bus.". |

Not at all as the X1 is not a 4x4. If I needed a 4x4 i would buy a Jeep which I don't.
The cost of buying the 225xe is dearer than the 118d X1 but the freedom I'll have in being able to drive in bus only lanes out ways the cost. Fuel cost saving is second but their's not much of a saving. The xe is so much faster than all X1's other than the 225x1 slightly, which costs a hell of a lot more. |

Just don't compute. Think (reach for the meaning which looks pretty obvious in fact). Some explanation (not to be taken literally again).

I don't think we have the same transit lane rules in Aus...either hire vehicle, or 2 on board to use most transit lanes, AFAIK.

Today's AWDs are pretty competent...I say that having owned the odd Landcruiser and Land Rover. My dealer was kind enough to lend me an X5 3.0d for a week, and I reckon it'd go everywhere most owners would want, including some reasonably rough stuff, and with excellent comfort. Modern traction control is quite outstanding and the ride and comfort of the X5 was superb.

That's not what I was questioning. The X1 is available with FWD...

I don't think people buy X1 to go offroad. They buy them because they are tall and easy to get in and out of for people who are not so flexible anymore. :-)

I do find getting in and out of the X1 far easier than the F20 but not quite as much fun to drive. But the F20 will not go on the beach like the F48 X-drive, hence the need for both |

I've drive our X1 25i on quite a few, formed loose gravel roads, which it has handled well. The AWD helps with sure-rootedness in those conditions and I suspect it will be used for all of our country driving (the M135i is pretty awful on gravel roads...fun...but awful

The 225xe will be a different type of all wheel drive. I'll not know how it drives until mine arrives as its one of the dealers demo's first shipment. Last edited by Kiwi; 05-26-2016 at 03:44 PM.. |

"All in one"
A compromise is only a compromise. Never as good as any of the choices. You can put up with it, but to like it... AFAIK a final statement of how weird that is is cut off here:
