One other thought: be careful to answer what is asked, and do not speak to what has not been asked. I've been in too many interviews in which the candidate, in an effort to demonstrate their grasp of the job, say too much and won't shut up!

Get to the point, respond to what is asked, and then shut it down. As you prepare, think of how to express your thoughts as concisely and accurately as you can.

Prepare, prepare, prepare.

All this advice is good to a point, but it's also too much to think about in some ways.

The best interviews are the ones where you don't overthink your answers and become too stilted. Be yourself, don't be afraid to let a little personality show through.

100% agreed. I've found that while it's good to do research on the company beforehand, 99% of the times they don't ask about what you know about the company (like mission statement, core values, market cap, etc.). So sometimes I'd do the minimum of research and wrote down just a few lines of info and went in to wing it. Those were the best interviews. One of them offered me the role the sams day. I think people tend to worry and stress out about interviews so much they forget the most important thing: letting your personality shine.

I learned a long time ago that I actually do better underprepared in some ways. Especially with behavioural interviewing (which I personally think is a sham but it's the tool of choice for so many employers these days). I found that when I put a lot of thought into preparing examples, I would answer questions from my prepared examples instead of letting the question lead me to a better one I hadn't thought of. When I go in knowing about the job and not preparing specific examples, I invariably land on the right one by instinct.

Either way I will let everyone know if I get it or not.
Awesome! Cant wait to see hear about it.

Like others had stated, its about how much the company wants you too. You have been working with this person for a while and already filling in for him. For most business owners/management, it makes sense to hire internal and hire someone that already has experience in the role

So you are going to be the fleet manager for the PD in a city, huh?

Our ACM just announced her resignation, a shocker to all. For some strange reason, several people have intimated that *I* would be the next logical choice. Not sure where some of these hair-brained ideas come from in cities. . . .

Well...if you wanted to nip that idea in the bud, you could just tell the folks in charge of hiring that you go by Uncle Wede on this site and direct them here for their reading pleasure.

If that doesn't work, I'd be happy to act as an...ahem...reference.

I agree with this - practice some of the standard questions for an interview, and try to have a few questions prepared to ask the panel back. I just recently started a new job, and went through a few interviews before making my move. I felt a lot more confident and comfortable in the later interviews since I had practice from the first few.

Ask follow-up questions back to keep the conversation two-sided, remember you're interviewing them as well. Understand what changes, if any, are expected for the role now that your old boss is on his way out. Keep the responsibility expectations commensurate with the salary they offer.

We have already changed everything over to my name and informed everyone that I will be the point of contact. So thing are looking good for me to take over 100% I just have to get through the test and interview process.

I will not feel completely comfortable until I get that email saying I got the job.

Good luck - sounds like you are a step ahead of the rest of the pack, but definitely don't rest on it!
