When and if I order one it will be a German Produced 325. I have a friend that is a former BMW Tech and he has stated repeatedly that the SA built E46 325s were more problematic than the German built cars.

BTW, my dealer received a large shipment yesterday, more than half were SA built 325s.

It also appears that the Regensburg (Germany) is now building sedans along with Munich. I have yet to see any from the new factory in Germany.

Oops, I also voted and then realized that you were specifying 325.
My 330xi was built in Germany. I have no idea if different models of the 3 series are built in different places.

BMW South Africa has won the BMW Internal Quality award 5 times in a row - making there cars LESS problematic then the German built ones.

It's evident even on this forum. Read the poeple's posts with german cars and all the rattles, shakes and paint defects. Then read all the posts of Dave in Ausi (and other ausi guys - SA built cars) all the south african guys...no complaints?

It's fact.

Hmmm,

I want a GERMAN car built BY Germans.

Take a look at the name BAVARIAN Motor Works. So Munchen or Regensurg is where I'll be asking about when I buy mine.

Canadian E90 owners do not need to answer, as ALL Canadian E90s are built in Germany.

I agree! Similar to purchasing a Honda, Toyota, and etc. built in the USA. The quility is certainly not there when compared to their vehicles built in Japan.

That is what some say.

My understanding is that 325s built in SA are built from Knock-Down kits shipped from Germany. The cars are just assembled there.

I'm MUCH more happy with my SA built BMW then the previous Munich built one. I actually kind of hope my next BMW comes from SA! No complaints from me

We build E90 from scratch here in South Africa ( no kits )
Only large part brought in is the enigne ( All E90 6cyl engines are from Austria, all 4 Cyl from England )

As said BMW SA has won the Internal quality awayed fro more than 5 Years in a row. Australia also reported 80% less defects in SA built cars over germany built cars when they switched.

Memebers her that have has SA buillt E46 and E90have commented on the good quality

If your 7th last VIN number is a N then your car was buillt here in SA.
They only make 325i here for the USA, but every other model for Japan, Australia, South Africa, Asia, ect ect

Most of the car is actually built by robot.

People mostly only do a very small part of the welding and push the fittings into the body in the final assembly section

One problem: None of the current E90 engines are built in Germany ( 6 cylinder in Austria, 4 cylinders in England )

Also be shure to stay clear of X3, X5 and Z4 then
