I love it.

If a F20 parks next to my E87, my 1er will still look great.

(Not my car on the picture, but mine look ident)

headlights look great, car looks great - definitely a step in the right direction dont know what you guys are talking about.

looks 1 billion x better than other new BMW models. True, e46 was the pinnacle of BMW but this round of styling is worlds better than the terrible bangle-butt 5, 6, 7 series and horrid e90 design.

IMO the new 1 series really doesn't look that bad, except for the back which as said before looks cheap and un-BMW like. While the E81 looks phenomenally better, especially the 1M you have to admit that the car has a boy-racer feel to it. With the F20 I think BMW is trying to head in a new direction and the car definitely looks more refined than the previous gen but in doing so they made the car look tame and uninspiring. I honestly doubt anyone who sees the F20 on the road will feel envious or want to go purchase one after seeing it.

While I don't have much of a problem with the looks my real gripe is the appalling choice of engines offered with the F20, the one redeeming factor for the car's uninspiring looks and BMW manages to mess it up. I understand that CAFE laws and efficient dynamics are dictating what direction BMW is taking their brand but aren't they creating a new " I " sub brand which focuses solely on fuel efficiency? They even produced electric E81s and are leasing them in preparation for the new I3; why waste the good reputation they built with the 1 series as being a fun and sporty compact?

This is the direction of the Hatchback, not the Coupe and Convertible.

I noticed that people from EU like it or at lest neutral towards it. Maybe it was targeted at EU's market more than NA's market?

(personally I think prius is better looking than this joke)

+1 I'm getting pretty annoyed by all this efficient dynamics crap. BMW also works together with PSA in developing engines, the 116i and 118i come with a 1.6ltr turbo and to me it looks like that same engine is used by Peugeot in some models (I can be wrong ofcourse, I hope so lol). So I can only hope those engines are pure BMW engines and not from PSA, paying much $$$$ for a BMW with a Peugeot engine would suck IMO

You also have to pay a damn lot more for the upcoming new models with an inline 6 2.0ltr engines already became a 4cyl after the E46, now the 25/28i will be a 4cyl too

I'm afraid they are slowly taking the joy out of driving BMW with all the focus on emissions and efficient dynamics and whatever. Except I guess for the pure M cars, but they are horribly taxed here.

This is not supposed to be the most aggressive BMW, it's supposed to be an entry level model, and as is the lineup isn't that spread out price wise. It is still a wonderful car with BMW looks and a ton of versatility. All of you complaining about the aesthetics are probably BMW fans and are not the intended market for this vehicle. I think it is a great car, definitely not the best looking, but a BMW nonetheless.

Most definitely.
The 1-serie was actually very successful as a fleet/business car in Europe. The F20 will be just as successful (in Europe). It's a huge market with only 2 serious competitors: VW Golf and Audi A3.

The M-package takes focus away from the headlights, so this is a 50% repair. The rear is better without the M-"diffusor".

Delivery of cars has been going on for a while, and it must be said that the design, and especially the front, looks less controversial in real life. I think we might find it intresting and exciting (but probably not beautiful) in a while. Almost like in the Bangle years.

The car inside the strange design is a big step forward from the old model - offering more sport AND more comfort as well. I have tested it and it might be my next car for the urban jungle.

I only wish the F20 Hatch would come with the N55 engine........ I remember the spyshots of the F20 M sport with twin exhausts (exit on both sides of the rear like the 335i etc) and thinking "YEAH!!!"

But now seems like we are only stuck with a N20 engine as the top model... *sigh

The problem is,that 99% of people saying its ugly , haven't even seen it IRL. While it does look times better in life. Picture just can't deliver that form-feel. So my advice is - get your arse up and have a walk right to the nearest BMW dealer. I bet, most of haters will change their mind.
Nevertheless, the thing i love about it is that it makes people have a respond to its design. People hate it or love it,but there are no neutral comments.

It will come as a 135i in September, in Europe at least. 320hp.
