The horsepower comparison (war) bewteen Merc and BMW

I am sure this is probably discussed before or touched upon at one point or another. I am not complaining about the lack of power of stock 135i, or 235i for that matter. However, their power output figures are marketingly smaller than the A45 or CLA45 (let's not worry about the actual dyno figure for now).

It just seems to me BMW can tweaked a little more out of the N55 so the magazines/journalists can go on and say yes BMW has more power. My uncle's 190E 2.5-16 definitely brings back some memories of the rivalry.

I am not sure what BMW got up the sleeves. I prefer BMW for my own reasons, but I am sure they are all very very nice cars.

The new M3/M4 probably points the way in terms of the power capability of the N55, which should always have more potential than the AMG 2L 4 cyl.

Yup. Well there is however an article saying the engine in M3 has different larger bore/shorter stroke and some such, but yes definitely seems more juice can be squeezed outta the N55. Well there seems to be a nice spot for something 380~420 hp/450~500 Nm, ha.

The M135i/M235i are not proper M cars as the A45/CLA45 AMGs are proper AMGs. The unofficially confirmed M2 will be the true competitor to these AMGs..

I do not trust the stock BMW power figures much. They are mostly written for marketing purposes to keep some balance to their product range.

The little M hatch has always been a curiosity. Like my old 130i M Sport it's not aimed at large volumes at all, but the enthusiast who will want to verify those numbers and squeeze out more.

The N55 engine is a beauty. With a proper tune 375 hp is no problem at all.

Mercedes had to pull something out of the box with the new A AMG in respect to looks, HP, performance etc. They have really stretched this turbo toy to the max to give it the creed to compete with BMW and Audi/VW
I do wonder if this Merc (AMG) engine will live a full life as do the bigger AMG built engines. In comparison, the current BMW engines are not 'stretched' and will have plenty of potential for far more HP. Bring on the M2 or a 2l 4 pot true M beast.
