Any 116D auto drivers out there???? Bit of a dilema!!
Hi all,
Was hoping to get some feed back from any 116D auto owners out there. Basically I am due to pick a new company car and have the choice of F21 116D Sport with auto gearbox and professional media or F21/F20 118D sport with only auto gearbox. I currently drive merc clc 180k 5 speed auto which has approximate 140 bhp and 0-60 of 10 seconds. Therefore 116D auto is about same 0-60 time and slightly less bhp, but with a more modern 8 speed box, more torque, less weight (??) and sports button am hoping that the BMW will feel as quick if not quicker. Like the idea of the pro media as drive approximatley 32k miles a year and live traffic on sat nav would be good. Also thought it would make the cabin a bit special and a nice place to sit. Please feel free to share your feed back if you drive a 116D auto and if not feel free to share your opinion on my dilemma. |

Hi,
I have a 116D ED whitch is only available as manual. I like the car a lot, drives excellent on long motorway stretches and can be quite enjoyable in sport mode on curving roads. I would expect the auto gearbox to only add more value to the experience I have so far. Since you will have the auto box on either model, I think the prof satnav will be more valuable to your driving experience compared to some 25 hp extra the 118d would give you.. After all, most of your driving will probably be purely transportation compared to a few times a year you take the car out for sheer driving pleasure... I know thats my case so I rather sit in a more luxurious cabin with 25 hp less than the other way around. Hope this helps, make a good choice

Thanks all for your comments, the majority of my driving time is spent on the motorway, therefore wanted to make sure that the 116D is sutable and doesn't feel lacking in power for overtakes and keeping up in the flow of traffic.
Math, you make some good points and must admit having the professional media over an extra 25 bhp will add more value to my long term driving pleasure and make the cabin a bit more special. |

116D has enough poke for motorway - my commute is about 80% motorway and in the opposite direction to rush hour (so little traffic), and I can frequently hit 65 mpg.

Thomo59, glad I could help
I must admit I'm a bit bummed I didn't get the professional satnav myself. It's just so cool! Then again, I have to pay for the car myself so you got to make some choices on all the available extras in the end All in all, I am very happy with my little bimmer and the choices I have made!

my son has just picked up his 116d auto with pro nav. I have the 125d. the 116d drives just as good and it has easily enough power for general purpose driving, overtaking easy. definitely get the pro nav, that, and the auto box, transform the car and should be the priority options.
