May 19th: I got the VIN number because I have asked for. I don't know if the car has been assembled or not.

Does any one know why this site is more capable to give the right data ?

Yes of course: they must update their database (unless they access the BMW's directly ) amazingly fast . When I requested my VIN and received it I had no use for it for quite a while: the site(s?) I tried explicitly stated their database was too old to include the current/last month.

This is strange: I would strongly believe your car has been produced and the date is "incapsulated" in the VIN somehow. I would guess they are just "cheating" disassembling your VIN to relate it to known configurations rather than "honestly" looking it up (although I don't know how VIN lookup works).

Don't worry.

I really don't believe that disassembling the 7 last digits allow to find the entire option list, i.e. 2 pages in my case. Even the documentation language is listed correctly. In addition, I have tried to increment and decrement the two last digits. I have seen that lowering the last digit by 7 (with repect to mine) or more returns already produced cars with a correct date, including today for the five highest numbers. Everything above is listed with a non coherent date (0001-01-01). So, I am quite confident that my car has not been already built. It will probably be the case tomorrow or next saturday. This website seems to be really very reliable and up to date. Even from one hour to the next, the situation can change ! at 6 pm today there were 8 cars before mine to be buit and at 7 pm this number decreased to 7. Of course, modifying only the 2 last digits means that one is looking to very similar cars, I mean regarding to the engine (at least).

Regards

All right, a brief research shows VIN does not actually include the information (I did doubt it was too short to incapsulate that much too, I just knew VIN was composite and felt lazy to consider ). Those 7 digits (though manufacturer specific) are (usually) a reference number to query the database by. Thus it can be allocated before the information is available. And yet the information can be available to a third party with a certain delay, depending on how they access it.

Hi guys.

Can anyone explain me how/where to track the build porgression step by step?

Can only find VIN decoders with the option list output.

Nice detail: my LCI F20 has been produced TODAY! *like*. Yesterday the production date stated 0001-01-01...

Thanks!

Your dealer can go online and give you an update on where it is in production.

Indeed. The car has been produced during week 22. I sent an email today in order to get a guarantee extension quotation. The dealer told me that the car is now in their stock center. I don't know what this really means but it seems that the delivery will be soon !

Regards
