Dab Radio, Its Like Name That Tune

Has anyone expierenced issues with the reception on these radios, signal keeps vanishing even on FM. Dealer recomends possible new rear screen but says all reception level etc were fine. Not sure wether its worth getting it replaced if it isnt going to make much difference.Car only 3 months old, dont live in the wilds or anything, any advice?

I am rather pleased with the DAB reception on our 2012 116i.

Have to say mine is awful, my mini GP before and the M3 before that with Factory DAB were much better,

I have 2 sections of motorway near me that the radio just doesn't pick up any DAB, but never had this in my earlier cars with in theory the same unit but different aerials

I keep meaning to go to the dealers, they are only 3 miles from my work

DAB still the same

Its been a while and I've had no feedback from the dealer to replace my rear screen, I was told car would be in for a few days due to the sealer curing after change. But not sure I'm that bothered as no one can say if it will make any difference may not even be worth the trouble, just have to carry on humming the song when it goes off then comes back on. Technology is a wonderful thing when it works.

When I reverse off the drive I find there's about half a metre where I don't get a signal, and there are some other areas where it drops. Oddly enough, roughly in the same areas that the FM signal used to drop while that was being rolled out.

The DAB transmitters are generally broadcasting with lower power than the FM transmitters. Expect the DAB power to increase over the next few years, as the network is being finished.

Unfortunately the hype when DAB first came out was that it is better than anything prior. Like most things DAB broadcasting is being improved.
As it works on digital format it does suffer from 'dead zone' where a steel mask is present (eg underground car parks). It is being improved. The good news is that we don't need to update the radio like we do with our I phones.

Like OEM nav, I've decided DAB is a waste of money. I get much better results streaming from a smartphone app such as TuneIn Radio. Makes me think the carmakers should focus more on providing a sound stage, and let consumers supply the source. I hope BMW does decide to back CarPlay and/or Android Auto soon.
