As an owner of the last of the NA 6cylinders with the fortune of the 8sp ZF, the 3cyl-T which makes a 6cyl sound is a better option than the 4cyl one, unless you want power to be felt and sound not to be heard.

I can imagine this thing in a 3 series being wound up and driven like race cars, just to get pass the eco standards.

btw. an 8cyl basically sounds like a 4cyl, if you want the best sound from an engine it is a 12 cyl (which is 2 6cyl)

Only if it has a flat plane crankshaft. A 90-degree crank will sound an octave higher and give you that nice screaming howl at high RPM's.

The new M5 has a weird exhaust setup that kind of emulates the sound of a flat plane, but then it also has the electronic sound that simulates a V10.

Evidently, electronic engine noise is all the rage (even Audi is doing it, but out the exhaust rather than the speakers) and rest assured this new 3-cylinder BMW will sound like it has a lot more cylinders than it does.

Disable the active sound and it'll sound like a lawn mower.

Enthusiasts should be happy, even if they'll never drive a 3-cylinder BMW.
In fact they are not even mercedes. They are not making anything special today. Comon guyz, BMW == 64th place in the NRing fastest.

+1 they are not making the ultimate driving anymore. Instead of working on thing like the x4 they should have built a better 3 serie.

Word. On top of that, the engine does make a compelling case all by itself.

I'm very impressed by this little 3 cylinder package. 0-100km in 7 seconds is quite astonishing for a 3 cylinder BMW. I probably wouldn't buy one myself but it is an excellent option for those more fuel conscious buyers.
