COMMENTS

BMW has released an M Performance Power Kit for the F20 125i with N20B20 engine.

It increases the factory 218 hp / 310 Nm to 238 hp / 350 Nm and of course retains the factory warranty. This extra power drops the 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) acceleration from 6.4 to 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h.

It's priced at 899-999 euro / £750 +VAT, depending on model year and the specific equipment of the 125i.

There would be no reason for them to do that. This is a factory retune, which means they can put in a new ECU that has new parameter for every input they want to change. They could even do this as a reflash surely if they wanted to.

I would say the 125i will be doing better than the factory 6.5 or 6.4 as standard anyway. I've managed 6.2 with my manual 125d as has a friend in his manual 125d.

Relatively speaking the ppk is a small increase for the coin. It would interesting to know if it changes the character of the car as the graph just looks to be an amplified version of the standard map.

The disclaimer states that the torque increase depends on the selected gear. First and second gear probably don't see that big a boost!

I just recently ordered a 125i so this definitely sounds interesting! And I guess if it retains factory warranty that is definitely a good thing.

What's the bet it will cost an arm and a leg down here in Australia...

I was quoted ZAR47000 (3500 euro) excluding fitment for the PPK and the m performance exhaust from my local dealer, auto bavaria, they are completely mental. May have quoted too high though, they didnt sound to sure what it was they were quoting on.

Matthew i'm in Sunninghill.

tkburn, the quote was for the back box and the tail piece basically and then the ppk, software and new intercooler and whatever else comes with it. the price is still stupid. the exhaust upgrade by itself the quote was R10k, again supply only, not fitted.

What about the official documents of the car. I mean that I have paied taxes for 160kW and this value is written on the car's offical documents. Should one declare such an upgrade ?

I suspect that it will only be available in countries where you can alter your car documents like f.eg. Germany. I'm almost certain that it won't be offered in Belgium.

It is also mandatory in countries like Norway, where you have to pay extra taxes for the added power! :-)

The thing is: how will they ever find out? In Belgium there is a whole 'grey zone' considering chiptuning, it happens constantly and there is no possibility whatsoever to 'register' the change. Which is not a problem IMO the less money that goes to the state the better
