BMW do most of the LCI design at design stage now on the computer. so even when they deliver the first car they already know what the second design will look like. this is done to reduce costs and ensure better compatibility - bmw have acknowledged this plenty of times.

You can decide price wise.
Golf costs less, BMW is technologically superior.
If you take the BMW order the Automatic, it's a piece of Art!! (it's expensive also here in Europe).
Thanks.

I actually think the BMW interiors are better than Audi/VW too, although this seems to be at odds with all the moto journo opinions.

Argh. The Manual Vs Auto decision is killing me. Love the auto, but $3,000 is a lot of money for that option.

NO, I have not had one yet, The only one I had was a friend with a 2010 GTI who said that his GTI was quicker than the 125i M Sport, so I took him for a ride, then let him take the wheel. Needless to say, he has now gone to the BMW dealer that I bought mine though and placed an order.
Nice mate. GTI owners sure are an arrogant bunch haha.

If you don't mind me asking, do you have the Auto or the manual?

I don't want to spoil the party here, but the GTi is about to be replaced with the VII while the 125i is a new release... and the coming GTi will almost certainly be an extremely good alternative.

I see it has 10% more torque aver the wide rpm band, it weights clearly less than the 1, the chassis has improved dynamics over the VI which wasn't bad either, the fuel efficiency is even clearly better than the one of the 125i, the structure has gained in rigidity, the interior and ergonomics had a massive upgrade. Agreed, it's FWD and this is not optimal for a sporthatch, the 1 has the better composed drive-line.

Since the new GTi VII is no unexpected release, since everybody has seen it coming for a few years now, I wonder why BMW deemed they had to launch the 125i instead of the 128i? The latter would be battle dressed for the hard confrontation we'll see within a few months. And it would have been a stronger car at ZERO extra cost (at least for BMW).

I am not convinced the 125i will have an easy victory on the new Golf. I can imagine it will have to be replaced with the 128i within a year or two.

agreed. same boat
luckily scott26 seems to think it wont change. heres hoping

although its not the greatest front end, with the m body kit it does look very aggressive. especially in alpine white

on another note, i think the new audi s3 looks pretty boring compared to this. in a few years once people have gotten used to the 1ers look, i think it will be preferred

The interiors of the new Audi and VW VII are better.

The Auto is really something special; way better than the dual-clutch Auto from VW/Audi; it drives like a Rolls.

BMW deliberately called it a 125i (160kw) to differentiate the power outputs between the 1 and 3 series. You have to consider that this same engine in the 328i currently produces 35 kws more. I am guessing that when the new golf gti comes out, BMW will probably give the 125i the higher kw output. It also has to be said that the M performance chip is also due out, so you could expect a M performance version with 255 kw soon. Happy days ahead

I work in the auto industry, and see quite a lot of new car parts for up and coming cars. Parts are already being produced for F22, F23, F32, F33 and F36, but I have seen no revised parts for the F20/F21. I don't think there will be a facelift soon.

Also think it would take longer for BMW to facelift the f20/21. Just bought a F20, so I hope that they wait with an facelift.

im pretty sure the consensus for this was that the front end change is for the new FWD 1 series, not the RWD F20/F21 which will remain the same

When i first show the car (photos) i found it bizarre, not exactly harmonious or beautiful. But when i saw it live it seemed much more dynamic. Now i think that the car has it's own personality and i definetely prefer this to other uninspired cars like a3 or vw golf. I hope that the facelift will not come early, next week i will become a happy owner of an 116 ed.

I feel you bro

My feelings exactly =)
I don't really care about facelifts and stufd like that. I bought my 1er around a year ago an seriously i bought it because I like my car like it is. All this people saying a car is fugly. Well its a taste thing! I loe that shark nose and I live the rear of the car! An yes the headlights might be a bit too big but I love my car! And if people that just ordered get angry because of this shit then you should habe gotten yourself an A3, which is probably get a facelift or new model in 2-3 years or an A-Klasse and get the grandma drving in a small car. The 1er rocks. It's driving for the small car category rocks. I don't car if people don't like the headlights of my car 'cause i take the curves of the Landesstrasse even better than a 3er. So stop writing such a lot of bullshit an criticising. Go design a car on your own instead and see how "easy" it is.

If they have seen fit to produce a new front end for the 2 series from November, wouldn't they also do a similar thing to the 1 series at the same time?

BMW usually wants to have a slightly different front on the sedan/coupe/hatchbacks. But there will probably be some facelift of the F20/21 as well some time in the future.

Nope. The 4 series front is different from the 3 series front. It;s part of BMWs new strategy to have the models independent so the 2 series isn't a coupe version of the 1 series hatch so to speak (although it kind of is).

Life cycle impulse changes usually take place 4 years into production. I can;t see BMW breaking with tradition just because a few people don't like bits of the styling. Numerous BMWs (especially from the bangle era) got slated for their looks and none of them got face lifted before their due date. The car is selling well so it's unlikely BMW care what the few think.

The only thing I ask for is the front of this beauty in the 1-Series. Please BMW, give us that wish.
