Fingers crossed they are changing the horrid lights. Worst design decision made at BMW in a long time. Does that make me a 'hater'? I suppose it does, I hate the current lights. It stopped me from buying one, so for me at least this is good news. Look forward to seeing the reveal.

I think it is more likely to be the 1er sport sedan/coupe front being tested on an existing F20 body.
If you look carefully the outline is very similar to the coupe//sport sedan

There is no logic to facelift a model that is selling exceptionally well and become critically acclaimed (M135i) by the media to have a facelift this early.
BMW have never performed a facelift this early in a models life cycle. Especially a successful model like the 1er.
We currently have an F20 120d- loving it. The size is perfect, its get great mpg and is fun to drive. Have an M135i on order for spring but may change that to something coming....

It does seem far too soon. Won't be pleasing to those of us whose cars will depreciate on release of the early facelift....Having said that, I'm rather fond of the current front lights.

The car with M Sport looks great!
And those who said that A Class has a good design, think twice

Maybe BMW execs see their volumes tanking right now on the F20 since only now the A-class, A3, Golf VII and V40 all hit together very strong with less polarizing alternatives to the prospected buyers? I agree it would not be logical to do this so early, but then again, bringing this poor mutant to life like this wasn't logical either.

Maybe they stopped being so idiosyncratic in design and pulled their heads out of their behinds? Having seen the marvellous 4 concept I can even believe they start to listen again to their dominant customers opinions and not only a virtual Asian market?

What makes you think this way? is the 1 Series gonna be offered with FWD?

I thought It will be another model line, not the 1 Series...

Bizar information and rather illogical.

When this is FWD testing and nothing else, why is the tape cladding on the front then? Are they going to bring the current front bumper and lights for RWD and a modified version for the FWD then? So we'll have two designs for the 1-serie depending where the driveshafts is directing to?

Complete Mis-information. 3 Cylinder Engines in F20. Yes, will happen. But FWD will not happen at all for the F2x.

I don't know why they insist on doing this. It's so ugly and all of the new designs they released are ugly. Why can't they just keep the original look?

I really hate to burst your bubble mate, but dealers don't really know much at all. I've known more about the cars at dealerships I've been to than the dealers themselves. They will also lie thought their teeth to sell an old model when they know facelifts are coming out.

I agree. I love the F20, but it is clear the market does not and all the complains seem to centre around the front end. All reviews mention it and most people you talk to don't like it (even our dealer doesn't like the look).

Personally I think to not change the look in 2013 would be nothing short of automotive suicide. I am a Beemer fanboy and I will admitt that in this segment and without a facelift the combination of the new golf, new A class and Volvo V40 will kill sales of the f20. While this may be unfair as In my opinion the 1 series has the best interior, best handling and sportiest looks (with M Kit), I think they have to react.
