M135i mods question

Hi all,

I'm considering picking up an M135i, but I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding the mod scene for it. Does it share mods with other cars, or is it unique?

- tunes: will a Jb4 (or a Procede) fit, or does the "extra" M tuning throw things out of whack?
- downpipes/exhaust: Seeing as it uses an N55, does it use identical downpipes to other 135s, or are there physical differences in the pipe routing under the body etc?
- suspension: what KWv3 fitment would I need?
- do regular intakes for the N55 fit?

Thanks a lot!

Hi,
- The JB4 F chassis N55 will fit work perfectly on your car ( definetly recommend your mods with a JB4)
- the E series Downpipes will not fit the F Series Downpipes. For your car the ER Downpipe is the best option
- Get the BMS F30 Intake.

Thanks for the reply. The F30 or the F20 intake?...

They call it F30 since when it was launched the F20 was not released yet.
But it fits both F30 and F20

Go for Afe momentum intake. Pair with BCS 200 cell sports cat downpipe. And match with M performance muffler and top off with JB 4... ...

Stock, you will already have more power than traction, so my suggestion is your first mod is to add a LSD.

And KW has specific sets for the F20 series. Most of them are even shared with the F30.

This. And then tune it, lower it, cool it and xorst it.

Modder's dream. Said so from the beginning. Awesome car.

I have the ER d-cat DP and the BMS intake - happy with both. DO NOT upgrade your exhaust until you hear the sound with the DP. I cancelled my order for the M-performance exhaust after getting the DP. Mine does not throw any CEL with the ER DP. I am running stock DME. The smell is overrated as an issue for the d-cat, a very rare and small nuisance for me. For me the JB4 has not been P'n'P - at all..., so read the forums before making up your mind.

Congrats on your M135i - you will love it

Cold start-up...

Harkes,

Sounds great.

Ref your comment about no CEL light, how many km's have driven with decat DP so far ?

Sometimes CEL may take awhile to light up. I ask out of curiousity as I've heard mixed stories about whther or not decat and sports cat DP's cause CEL.

Anyhow, Enjoy !

PD

Chaddy - my toughts too hence why I asked the question. I have no problem with sports cat DP when I put my JB4 into stock or bypass maps. Guess we'll watch this space to see how Harkes gets on. Fingers x'd for him though. PD

Hearing chaddy saying that it might be that I used to drive with the JB4, but dont anymore that makes my car not throwing a CEL...? I have been driving the last ~1000km with my JB4 completely disconnected - NO CEL!

@chaddy74 - I believe you also disconnected your JB4 for the moment?

Yeah i experienced the same thing when i removed the JB 4 car ran for an extended period without throwing the CEL .... but eventually did , it wont cause you any issues but its a real mental distraction on such a beautiful car ! I purchased an iobd2 wifi code reader/logger and running the app you can clear codes in seconds, its also really handy for logging and monitoring the car without the JB4. Yes I have removed the JB4 due to inconsistant throttle related issues... there is no doubt the JB4 will give you the most power tho its just not working for me at this time.

Yeah it would be a freakish thing if he didnt get a CEL !! I recently went back to a 200CEL downpipe and removed the catless and i believe :

1. The car runs smoother
2. No Cel
3. More torque
4. No smell

So for me the 200CEL Milltek DP is the best option for me.

I have also back to back tested the AFE intake against the Stock Airbox and guess what the stock airbox does offer better part to mid range throttle response and torque without sacrificing any power in the top end (possibly 1-2MPH over a 400M run but this was inconsistent so i have also gone back to the stock airbox. I maintained the AFE scoop tho which force feeds the stock airbox... great piece of kit !!

My experience with the above bolt-ons is that they dont offer any performance gains (they might with a tune) - they do however offer some awesome sound. With the BMS intake you can clearly hear the turbo spool and blow off and the DP provides a nice rumble

@chaddy74 - Any video/sound clips with the AFE?

A 200Cel Downpipe will give you the same performance as a catless DP without the CEL and in my case its better performance mid range and torque ... in your case its appears its a Moot point with the catless, but for 99% of people running a catless DP they get a CEL without the JB4. Standard Airbox on the M135i is good for 400+ HPATW so again i see little point sucking up hot air once the engine get a bit of heat soak. I have validated my communications on several Vbox tests both off and on the track, but again every car reacts differently so if you can validate your gains then its all worthwhile.

The AEM is an enclosed airbox so IMO it appears to be a better design than say the open BMS design , sure on the dyno with the bonnet open it will flow more air and create additional power but in the real world im not buying into the whole increased IAT by sucking in hot air due to under bonnet temps. Again this is only my opinion from 25 years of modding turbo cars.

Harkes,

Agreed, bolt-ons do work best with a tune. Its an expensive way of making more of a din otherwise !!

On the same day, my car went from crank power / torque of 320/330 to 380/450 just with JB4 custom mapped on a rolling road after having sports cat DP fitted.

Chaddy - based on my gains above - I was surprised by the torque increase on an already torquey motor.

PD.
