Here's the answer.

When you have a guy standing behind who's sole job is to hand you stacks of money, you are rich beyond all question.

Notice at 27 seconds when he runs out of money, he requests another stack then actually rolls his eyes at his guy when he can't comply.

You know why the guy in the back handing him the cash seems put off?

Because he had to pick up and re-stack all that cash when the video was turned off. lol

Not the same. I see no blow, and I would want female hookers, not male hookers in dresses.

3 times in my life I have quit my job and gone back to basics and had a "reset". Most recently was 3 years ago when I went from earning a 6 figure salary to less than $15k a year. I reckon everyone should try this at least once in your life and you soon realise what's important and the things you can go without. Most people think that they couldn't cope but you will always learn to live within your means but sadly over time most people will start to live beyond their means.

Try hitting that "reset" button in your life at least once, you may just surprise yourself.
This is a really good idea. I recently returned from a modified version of this by taking my whole family on an international sabbatical for 6 months. Definitely reset us in terms of what we need and do not need. Also made us realize just how well the family can function living with a lot less.

Being honest, probably would take a gross income of 900k to 1.3 mil. I know, I know, there are people on this forum who already have such an income, and we all have friends that are in the above camp, and they are here posting and do not consider themselves rich. For example, anyone who is a partner at a big 4 averages the above. But, that is what it would take for me. It's doable I guess.

have friends that are teachers ( my girlfriend) live in a moderate house in CT, no student debt, no need for expensive car payments, get good deals shopping, save up for a modest vacation here and there, etc and enjoy life... rich

on the other hands, several of my buddies make 2-300k at age 27, need to live in NYC, need to take girls on expensive vacations, go to yacht week with their buddies, wear 1500 suits, spend 1,000 a weekend going out and shopping, and spend every cent they have... they are poor. i have been struggling not to fall into this category !

a penny saved is a penny earned, to me it's all about what you can manage to save. i envy my father and his generation for being so conservative and saving so much growing up. it's honestly tough.
interesting you say that, when I was in HS I worked for a realtor/contractor and "cleaned up" some jobsites of NHL players' homes. These would not be the 2-3 mil. salaried players back then, more like a 10-14 today....it was incredible for a 17 y.o. to see. I'm not even interested in those trappings...like I said if my salary were 900k or so, I would feel rich, even though I know that's not really rich by today's standards...just hard to not save up if it's coming in at that rate...

200k in NYC, forget it, that is poor, but of course it's not poor like the people who commute in and make $15/hr.....

Two of our friends hit it big time. One is in Brookline MA and has a 10 mil. home, one is in Weston MA and has a multi million home. Amazing to see HS buddies hit it like that, but they earned it...knew how to compete...and crush lol

Also, your mortgage interest is tax deductible. I know it makes a lot of people feel better but paying off your debt is not always the best financial move. Depends on interest rates, cash flows, and alternative investment opportunities among other things.

Edit: This response is not directed specifically at @ny325. The simple life is definitely an appealing option. Just making a general observation.
This. Though I've largely given up on that argument on this forum.

Everyone tends to think financing your BMW means you can't afford it or that you should pay off your mortgage asap. If my primary residence was paid off we'd just get a LOC against it to buy more property. But my mortgage interest rate is so low that it's a wash and we may as well just invest the extra funds in more property. Not that property investment is the right vehicle for everyone. Even our market investments during worst portion of the last recession averaged a 8% roi which is double the highest interest rate loan we have. So why pay the loan?

I was always told that there are two ways to create wealth. Leverage money or people. Both can be risky and both can be rewarding.
Leverage people aka put them on the street corners? I like that.

Some people do that, yes. Better than an intern though.

Yeah, i wouldn't want to be in an intern position either. I'm sure it's pretty cramped sitting under a desk all day.
