Album art on standard 6.5" screen?

Hi again. Got a new 116ED F20 with standard bluetooth and no nav. Only things ive added is harman kardon, lumbar support and auto lights/wipers.

Searched this forum and others but can't find a definitive answer...should i be seeing album art?

Things i've tried:

- iphone connected with genuine ipod y cable
- usb stick in arm rest (cant find a glove box one) with music in aac and mp3 format and embedded album art (embedded using software outside of iTunes)

There doesn't seem to be any room on the screen to show the album art even if it did work as its all taken up by the idrive side bar thing (with the back/forward circle thing) and the current track listing.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, album artwork is shown on the screen. Artist, album and title shows in the first seconds of a song, and if there is any album artwork embedded, the artist, album and song title is replaced by the album artwork after a few seconds.

Thanks, I though album art could be displayed from USB with 609 and the basic bluetooth installation.

I have the professional/business navigation (wide screen) without the extra bluetooth package (so working with an Y cabel) - could someone confirm if I would be able to see the artwork of the albums of my Ipod or USB stick?

Cheers,

Well, this sucks. I can have album art in a £7000 Aygo but not as standard I a £23000 BMW. They are getting more and more like VW all the time, oh what you want FOUR wheels with your car sir, well that's an optional extra. :-/

Your iPhone/iPod needs to be connected via USB in order to have the artwork showing.

Each mp3 has to have the album artwork embedded in the ID3 tag - I assume this has been done? There are loads of free programs that can help you do this. If its still not working then maybe you dont have 6NK? Have you checked your VIN?

Sorry for sounding impatient :P
Checked with mp3tag, cover arts are there (drag out from iTunes), also checked VIN, 6NK is there, also got latest software update (both MX and TX)

Just to confirm are your files actually MP3?

iTunes is fairly rubbish at assigning good tags for some reason, so I would try to retag a few songs manually with another program and try them - I cant understand why it isnt working.

Try this: http://dalepreston.com/Blog/2009/07/...art-fixer.html

Edit take a look here - http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529599

Cheers,
I have pro nav and standard Bluetooth, I was not able to play audio via Bluetooth or via USB without a Y cable. I recently purchased a OBD2 cable to try out some coding and now I have enhanced Bluetooth by simply adding 6NK to the coded features, was extremely easy to accomplish and now all the above works and album art.

I believe if you have pro nav the combox is the same as one with enhanced but just the feature is disabled. This goes for all combox features such as Internet, BMW apps, BMW live and BMW online, you just need to enable them which can be accomplished with a little research.

Hi,
Where did you get the cable? How much?
And most importantly, can you explain in more detail the coding process to upgrade 6NH to 6NK?
Thank you so much!

Sure,

Cable was from here: http://www.one-stop-electronics.com/shop/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=21

You will need to get a software package called E-sys which is what you will use to code. Use google but FYI its big 11gb+ PM me if you have no luck.

You will also need a laptop any laptop as long as its got an RJ45 network port, and minimum winxp.

I will put together a quick tutorial for this mode but again use google there is a lot of information out there. But if u have issues PM me and we can sort something out.
