Just a quick reminder...

"Reply All" should be used very sparingly.

That is all.

Oh no, I can only imagine. Hey, if it makes you feel any better, how about a little story from me?

I'm an attorney who oversees quite a bit of contractor work from time to time. At any given time, I'm in charge of as many as 30 contract attorneys. Long story short, every now and then I have to email the higher ups with a review of the contract attorneys' work, individual assessments if you will. A few years back, I needed to write some reviews about some attorneys and I couldn't remember all their names. So what I did was this:

- pulled up an email sent to ALL, so I could see their names and write a review for each.

- After writing each review, I was called to an emergency meeting and forgot all about the email.

- A couple hours later, the boss walks in an wonders where the reviews are. A bit flustered I say "Oh all, done, let me send them to you now!".

- As you can guess, I didn't remove the names of the attorneys from the email, and everyone was sent their (very) detailed reviews. Everybody could see what everybody else got, etc.

Not a good day for me, lol.

I hate when a whole slew of people receive a meeting notice and people who can't make the meeting feel the need to notify EVERYONE that they can't. Just a simple note back to the meeting organizer is sufficient.

Just sayin'.

Outlook actually "warns" you when you're about to reply to all, and parties from outside your organization are included in your recipient list. Definitely has saved me a few times.

I hate that crap. It's like iPhone group messages where you get 16 messages in under a minute and it turns out that your weird aunt sent a photo to EVERYONE in her address book. And they're all replying. All at once.

BRB, time to take my Lisinopril.

I made a nice "suggestion" to the baseball coach to send out the blasts to himself, and BCC all the rest of us. Just in case some replies with something of a personal nature that the rest of us don't want to hear. And/or those of us who don't particularly want all three teams to have my email address.

Even more exciting when your dumb friend downloads a malware that sends the most vile gangbang porn to everyone on his email address list, including his church pastor.

And the poor guy tryin to explain to some of his church members that he had nothing to do with it.

LoL, I can't commiserate with that one too. One of my old email accounts got hacked and some dick pill spam got sent out to all my contacts. The headline was hilarious "HIT HER WITH YOUR DICK!!!".

This got sent to my mom, dad, employer, everybody. Hahah

One more thing...if you're sending out a work-related email, don't use 18pt magenta text!!

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS. YOU PUT CONTACT INFO DOWN THERE, AND THAT'S IT. IT'S NOT A PERSONAL FUCKING BILLBOARD.

I once worked with a woman who printed every stinking email. Had a dozen 4-drawer filing cabinets in her office.

Ha, I just recently had that happen about 4 months ago with worker's comp. I had my attorney, the insurance, my former supervisor that I had no choice but to rat out, and forwarding an edited version to a former coworker (that quit over the same reasons) just to talk trash. I was still a bit frazzled/stressed, so I reversed it: The one where I ratted out my former supervisor was supposed to be forwarded to that coworker was sent to... My former supervisor, and one where I'm listing all the gruesome details of what stress-caused side effects (hint: mostly gastrointestinal, but one instance of sexual) were caused were sent "reply-all" to not just the insurance, but the attorney and insurance brokerage firm, which sure garnered me a weird look when I had to pick up paperwork from the broker and a comment of shock and awe on the subject matter when I next saw him. Saved me a couple of hours trying to be discretionary, but it sure pissed off / grossed out a few people I didn't intend to.

I almost always forget to hit Reply All when I need it. I never click it by default. If I could, I'd move it to a pulldown menu item so I'd never click it mistakenly. There should be a pop-up when you click Reply All that asks, "Are you sure?" I mean, my Mac does that when I want to shut down. Why not on something really dangerous like Reply All?
