BMW 1-series Closed Room View
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Got a chance to view the new 1-series today live at a closed room demo. Was a bit (really) sceptical having seen the pictures a week ago. The pictures we´ve all seen do not do justice to this car - at all!! Once you´ve seen it live, it´s a serious WAUUUU, both interior and exterior. The car was a Alpine White 116d, with black leather interior, sunroof and 17" alloys. Forget the Polo like rear end or too big nose, the proportions are just right. Already thinking of ordering a 118iA with M-sport package This car was worth a wait!!! Thank you BMW!! |

Thanks for sharing Leif.
This is exactly what I expected. Same story as with the first 1-series (got bashed big time as well). This car will be a huge succes once again.

The new 1-series is in flesh much sharper than in pictures.. Actually the sketches in the press release to my opinion give more realistic idea. It´s a damn beautiful and sporty hatcback, a totally new car

This is my first post since I posted for the first time on the Bimmerfest BMW Forum and now I just joined this forum today. I kept the same user name. I think the hatchback version of the BMW 1-series is going to be a big hit and I wish they would bring the car to the USA also since there are a lot of people that like the utility features of a hatchback. I do not find the car ugly and find it sporty and cute. My car will be arriving at the dealership in 2 weeks so I am trying to learn all I can before it arrives. I am very excited.

I've been to a similar closed room viewing and I have to say, it indeed looks better in real life than on the pictures. The rear definitely looks better and the front is less hideous.
The car we got to see was a red 118i sport. I was definitely impressed with the interior quality: quite an improvement over our current 130i. The one thing that did not impress me was the steering wheel (it was the leather sport steering wheel): it felt utterly cheap (almost like it was made of plastic) and the shape was not right for the hands. I felt really awkward holding it. I'm really hoping for a different M-sport steering wheel because the M-sport wheel in our current 130i is definitely better shaped and made of better materials. The good news: it's finally possible to have a proper sitting position in the back. The e87 1er didn't leave much room behind a front passenger whereas the f20 has enough rear room for extended periods of time. Another hopeful point: I got to look at the engine bay and there was quite a lot of room near engine: definitely enough for 2 more cilinders. So hopefully BMW decides to build a 135i f20 because right now there is not really an interesting replacement for the e87 130i... |
