Slower than a 328i, more expensive than a hooker with a drug habit to maintain.

Slower than a 328i, Where did you pull that from? What do you drive anyway?

2008 328i 0-60 6.3 1/4 @ 14.6
1998 M3 Sedan 0-60 5.5 1/4 @ 14.0

OP: I had a 98 vert and it was pretty much problem free.
The sedan is actually the best handling of the 3 bodies.

I would stick with private individual sales. That one I posted for example. The guy will probably be able to give you a good account of his time with the car, past owner(s), issues-if any and receipts...etc.. I am sure you know all that.

I have been peeking around at a 10K car to mess around with since my wish for a new 997 S is on the waaaay back burner for now.

Found a 944 Turbo with some professionally installed engine mods out in southern Cal. PCA member since...blah blah blah. Clean as hell 70K miles. $10,700. I like the styling of both the M3 and the 944 but this P car appeals to me more than another M3.

I've always wanted to turbo a 968 coupe....

But, yeah, OP, I have a scar on my middle finger knuckle from years back when my E36 M3's climate controls needed a love tap here and there to wake up from some sort of durrrr sleep mode. I loved the car while I had it, but too many little and annoying issues. Speakers, climate controls, OBC issues, window motors, water pumps (yes even the metal impellers fail), radiator, etc....

And that's not even mentioning that it is the only ///M3 without an ///M motor. I would only buy an E36 ///M again to turbo the shit out of it and strip it down to as little as possible.

The 944 Turbo has been tweaked at a very well known P guys shop....300whp! 10K...no brainer for a 70K miles 86' with spit shine clean original red paint with black leather. No dash cracks. I want a toy!!!!

OP: Maybe it is just me but older is cool and new is, well it's just new.

Too old? Jeez.

I bought a '98 740 with 143k on it. has 170k on it now, 2 1/2 years later. Great daily driver, and will be for a few years more. Those of us who arne't rich use older cars as daily drivers all the time.

That car would be great as a daily, and even better as a fun 2nd/3rd car.

If that's too old, what do you call a 2002 Tii?

That color is drop dead gorgeous.

I'd take that over Estoril any day of the week.

Okay, i do concede that it was probably optimistic but Car and Driver writes that my 330i should be able to beat an E36 M3 without much of a hassle.

As the owner of several e36 m3's over the past couple of years i can tell you the following.

I love them but they are alot of time/money to maintain. I put more money into maintaining them then my e39 m5 but a long shot. Ive replaced steering racks (1,000.00) rear trailing arm bushings, water pumps, oil pan gaskets etc. on almost every one i owned. They are fantastic cars otherwise but it hits a point were you just cant do it anymore. Thats why i got my 135i, i was putting more money into maintenance then a payment for a new one. Hope this was of some help

I love E36 M3s! They'll never be "too old." With that mileage though, I'd be asking for a lot of service receipts!
