Funny that the Grand Coupe is neither.

Well the way I see it, BMW's badging strategy is all about the numbers. An "M Sport" package has a few M logos.

Have you ever stopped to count how many times the M logo appears on an M4? I counted 25 Exterior M logos on mine (with MPE that adds a few). Interior adds a whole bunch more.

its always been like this. My e36, e46 all had almost the same amount of M badges as my f80, only one that was obviously missing was the front grill, but the e30 had that.

M badge on seats, gps/screen, shifter, ic, steering wheel, fenders, rear, sides, etc.

the M badges on the underside of the car, are because M GBMH parts are stamped with M badges on them.

With people and with M, it is what's inside that really matters.

Lets be honest. The biggest abuser of putting Ms on none M BMWs is BMW!!

I own a BMW 330i with an "M sport package" and ill admit I feel like a bit of a douche with all the M logos on it.

At least they arent as bad as what merc is doing with their amg branding. E 43 amg / c43 amg is their bs attempt at selling 450 series and also provide less incentives since it now gets proper amg badge. Bmw makes things clear by putting the M at the end of series name for non-M cars.

According to C&D, the M3 has 67 M badges! Source: http://blog.caranddriver.com/the-num...is-staggering/

I have 8 or 9 M badges on my Z4. I don't really care about the badges, either way the car is still awesome.

I've owned an e92 M3 and a 335i. I put new shoes on the 335i and to be honest, most people could not tell the difference between the two.

My wife isn't into cars and has no idea what M means. She just thought it was another sedan. "It looks just like your other car".

If you are concerned with the badge and want to feel special, buy a Porsche. They hold higher regard with most people.

That's incorrect.
Both the Z4 and Z3 generations had non-M coupes.
You could spot a non-M Z3 coupe from afar due to the awkward license plate mounting point:

And this is why I ticked all the badge removal boxes when I ordered an M235i

Like many things in life, its whats under the hood that counts...
