Bmw F20 2013 Upgrade To The Lci Front 2015

Hi everyone

i bought a bmw 1 series f20 2013 with a side hit damage which now has been professionally repaired however i was able to get hold of a front end for very cheap with the new headlights in it,

i have done some reading and have come across a wiring harness for the bmw f30 but not for the f20

i am unable to switch the lights on.... off course as this may need to be hard wired and then coded, hopefully my ethernet to obd2 should be here in a few days,

can someone kindly shine some light on me as im absolutely stuck and non of the locals have a clue where to start from, so i thought maybe its something i can just learn to do myself.

attached is a pic of my front end conversion what do u think

116d auto

can i just say many thanks in advance

I hope that cable tie is not holding the wheel on

I think it looks okay, from that angle the lines match up. But it may reduce the resale value of your car since it's now non-standard. You will have to inform your insurance of the modification and as such your insurance could be higher depending on who your insurers are and your policy. You also have a problem with the headlights as you say but hopefully that is an easy fix.

I'm not sure why the headlights are not working. In my mind, the front end would be just bulbs. Are they the same bulbs? Does the connectors to the lights fit? If yes, are the pin-outs the same? If not then I guess you will need to modify your F20 harness or make some kind of adaptor plug as an intermediary between your F20 haress and the new headlights, to save cutting your F20 harness and causing more issues down the line. Something like:
F20 harness > original headlight connector > adaptor wiring / plug > new headlight

I think the resale value of F20 with that front would be somewhat higher than a stock one.

haha i just upgraded the wheels on that as it was the very standard ones,
however the front end is an m sport,

its the new bi xenon headlights so im sure the wiring will be different although the clip to the headlights go straight on but it still doesnt work, there is a guide on here for the bmw f30 but theres nothing for this 1 series, at first i was thinking of doing the 2 series front end but just stuck with this,

surely someone has done this upgrade on here before

Xenon? You know the LCI has LEDs right? I'm sure the wiring and probably the software are quite different, good luck

I think your right it must be led
Do u think I've just shot myself in the leg by getting this front end put on
Should I go to the stealership and some how get a picture of the clip that plugs into the headlight maybe the wires might need rearranging

You will have to get the 3 lighting modules recoded (one behind each light pack and the main lighting module to accept the Leds and Xenons. Once coded all will work

I don't know about all this 2015 technology of coding, but I'd still be concerned with the pin outs, and be comparing the F20 to the F30.

Resale value would only be higher for someone willing to modify their car, or drive a modified car. What if you get into an accident? That's going to be great fun having the repair shop get parts for the wrong vehicle and then fitting the parts for the wrong vehicle. Anyone with this mindset would be deterred from buying the car and this then diminishes resale value.

Right I got them working changed a few wires from the FRM coded it job done

And in terms of selling the car don't think I'd be doing that anytime soon, this one may just be a keeper, my insurance covers it all

Now I'm thinking of opening the old headlights and fitting the angel rings in them

There are some people in this forum that have successfully converted their old f20 to the new ones. Ask them about lighting. Worst case scenario you can bypass the lighting mechanism and relay the switch on lights signal to an external xenon/led system.

I think this is the first rebuild to F20 LCI front. The others have rebuilt with the 2 series front.

Putting an M135i LCI front on my F21 M135i is on my to-do list...

Nice at last to see someone else doing so! I don't like the 2 series front so much...

A guy had upgraded his X5 to LCI and in order to make the LED light work properly, he had replaced the Footwell Module and did coding.

Ive done the conversion too.
the issue you have is that the wires connecting to the light assembly is upside down. play round with the combinations and it will work. its not coding related.

I quite like the rear lights of the new 1 Series. They look so cool in person.
