I don't have any issues with current steering wheel - I think it's made from high quality material and generally looks nice. If you don't like the aluminum trim you can always cover that up or option the car with carbon fiber trim (assuming that's an option on the model) as seen in the G8X:

This bottom part circled. I like when its open and looks more sporty.
Like the lambo Urus…

BMW steering wheels are too wide in diameter and too thick. Needs a thinner rim and smaller diameter.

Like having the seats but wanted to delete wheel heat from order. Trim painted to minimize that button.

I keep telling you all that BMW evolution should have just stopped at the E82.

I love my steering wheel:

I bought a new black 1986 325es that had the M3 steering wheel. Someone in the factory said lets made it bad ass or maybe they ran out of regular steering wheels.

I dont like the flat bottoms. The horn shape also does not "flow" as well to me. Of course, if like the flat and can get it...glad you like it.

That Urus wheel is basically the same as the one in my car. I do love that new flat bottom BMW wheel...perhaps it will be on my next car.

That new steering wheel design is going to trickle down into all their models. The X1 has this new design already, it’s just the non-M version. Overall an improvement in looks however as others have said, touch capacitive buttons suck.

Android based iDrive9 will get rid of the controller wheel and we’ll have this new steering wheel. You can kind of see how the next Gen 3/4 series interiors will look like.

Yeah that makes no sense. Love or hate the new wheel, the XM is brand new product and innovation.

This brings me so much nostalgia. I know exactly how that feels. Such a tight and communicative steering rack.

Not to mention it's the perfect size wheel in your hands. Not too thick, not too thin, not too big, not too small...okay this is starting to sound wrong but yeah I agree, that was an excellent wheel.

Flat bottom steering wheels are just as "sporty" as SUVs. That is, dedicated to those, whose only idea of sport is watching it.

The steering wheel must be round for comfortable steering if you have to change your grip while turning it. And it should be thick (and reasonably soft) to hold it tight without much effort.

The wheel in question suggests the correct grip for straight line steering and it's round for comfortable turning beyond keeping that grip. The "irritating" part doesn't bother me except for the button, which should've remained on the column, I believe. What does irritate me a bit is that it seems asymmetric, like the left spoke is longer than the right one. And I hate the shiny trim.
