You guys are lucky, you already get more standard options AND have to pay less for BMW or other imports.

Check out German prices and options lists.

Lets take the new X1:
120€ for a CD Drive (in 2015)
1600€ for Basic leather
1000€ Electric seats
600€ Auto A/C
700€ Connected Drive

2 years warranty + no free maintenance.

So compared like this BMW already includes a lot of options for the US market which are normally not standard.

However for this we get more options to choose from like 3 cylinders and diesels
... and manual

If your car came with a CD player you also paid for it, only difference is if it came standard you didn't have the option to not get it.

Couldn't agree more, every time I get a loaner, I miss my 3er. Hell, our GT, which has a hydraulic steering rack, is more engaging to drive than the new 3 series.

Agreed, getting charged extra for "options" that come as standard equipment on other cars is embarrassing especially since the handling of modern BWMs has been somewhat diminished, IMHO, of course.

Actually I used the CD drive only once to test the DVD functionality, after that everything I need is on the harddrive.

So if I would go for an X1 in this case I would order it without the CD Drive, every saved cent counts
