Best springs to lower M135i with M Dynamic suspension

Hi all

I'm about to install some VMR VB3 19" wheels which once on I want to lower my car about 35mm.

What springs are best to lower an M135i this amount? I have the M Adaptive suspension fitted too.

James

A couple of people on the 1er forum have installed 25mm lower H+Rs and been very happy with results. They appear to do a 35mm and a 45/50mm lowering spring which they claim are suitable with stock dampers, but I'm not sure that lowering that much without fitting matching damping is a great idea.

Thanks Johnny, have bought the H & R 25mm lowering. Have also bought a set of 19" VMR VB3/CSL style wheels so it should look a little meaner with the springs and the wheels.

I think it will look excellent - very interested to hear what you think when the springs go in as I reckon my car could benefit from firmer suspension. I can't afford to lose much travel thought or I won't be able to get into my parking spot at home or our weekender's driveway....

Got a similar problem...my garage is at the bottom of a fairly steep driveway and at the point of entry to the garage the front (I've got the M Performance front spoiler too) is only about 55mm off the ground, so minus 25mm and we're cutting it pretty fine!

Would love to see some photos and get feedback on how the driving feel is once they're installed

James & Hasan

Have a look on Babybmw forum, link below.

http://www.babybmw.net/viewforum.php?f=74

Do a search and you will find plenty of good info/opinion/feedback etc

Lots of us running eibach or H&R springs on m135i's with adaptive dampers.

I have H&R springs on mine. Love the stance (see iPhone photo below), ride is stiffer but not silly (important here in uk where roads aren't the smoothest) and it handles like it should from the factory!

Garage List
Just had Birds install a prototype coil set to match the anti-sway bars I had fitted from them last year. They seem to have lowered the overall stance by about 20mm all round, so not as low as the Hartge set which I was considering, but that's not a bad thing for UK roads.

Again I have the active suspension option as well. Comfort setting is now as firm as Sport used to be.

Only problem now is the standard shockers are clearly only just up to the job as far a general damping is concerned. Might need to swap them at some point.

Pops! Very nice - perfect drop IMHO.

More importantly, how are you finding the driving - improved feedback? Sharper/better control?

Combo of H&R springs, Birds sway bars and quaife LSD car now handles like its on rails yet ride is still v compliant even in sports modes, which is important with our very average [just] road surfaces in UK. Car turn-in feels much better.
