ChipTuning vs. Fuel Consumption

Hi all,

i was told my 118i will be boosted to 210hp frm 170hp using kellener sports computer chip.

The reason i got the 118i is its fuel efficiency.

My question is any ideas how much MORE fuel consumption would it take after chip tuning?? Gotta weigh out $$ vs fun. Thanks =)

Only when you actually do the tuning you will know! All the tuners claim the same or even improved fuel economy after the tuning, but only in everyday use you will know if it is true or not.

I too love the fuel economy of my 118i.

Yea I agree. You won't know until you chiptune. Are you planning to chiptune your 118i? Are such chiptunes DIY though? Would it be difficult to do it yourself?

Fanis, would you go for it?

I am thinking of doing it, but I have not decided yet. I would only go with a reputable tuner like Schnitzer, Hartge, Procede, DMS, Evolve etc.

I do Remapping/chip tuning, and if i say, it is well worth it. As you know when cruising you will be gaining on fuel consumption, due to using less on the pedal while gaining more speed from more power at low RPM. So the question is, how often do you race the car or drive fast? if not that mutch then you will actually save on fuel consumption by doing the remap, but if you a racer, you will burn more fuel for the increase power up the RPM.
Hope this helps your decision.
