Question M135i Performance Parts Dilemma {Choices}

Howsit guys, my first post here!

So I have a few choices of upgrading my M135i, It's Alpine White. I must say, it is an absolute dream to drive!!

Basically, I'm trying to decide whether I want to commit o the look of the M-Perormance model of the M135i. It basically includes; Front + Rear bumper, Sills and a few other goodies (Besides rims)

So my question to you guys is, do you think a few years, I'd possibly regret changing, the already, awesome look of the car? Or maybe it is 'too much'

I'm also interested in what you guys think of the overall look of the car, compared to the standard! Maybe things you would have an things you wouldn't! I've looked at many pics and I'm still undecided! I'm also thinking of adding the Performance Chassis, if I go with the look.

Thanks so much guys, really, any feedback would be awesome
Cheers!

I like the sills and the interior trim, but not the bumpers. The stripes over the car looks rather good, but I think they are a little bit too much.

The rear window trim would look better in white.

Just my personal opinion, but I think less is more when it comes to the M135i, which suits the stealth approach. I'd stick to the subtle BMP options to maintain that effect.

My plan was to buy it, drive it a few years then upgrade.

Don't see any point on wasting money on bits of superfluous plastic and overly large wheels.

+1

Owned mine now for 6 months and M135i is absolute belter out of the box.

My mods strategy is driven by foibles I find that I chose to remedy.

All mods so far are "under-the-skin" to keep it as stealthy as possible.

If cosmetics is your thing, then go for it.

If you like it go for it, I have Alpine White with the side skirts, wheels, rear spoiler

The front splitter unit is going on this week, it is removeable

The only part which doesn't enhance visually imo is the rear valance, the stock looks better.

Heres my AW just prior to the front going on - car is in BMW having it fitted right now
Its all very well being mega stealthy but to me it's not very exciting, the M135i is an exciting performance car and I want that to be reflected in its road presence

Thanks for the quick reply guys!
The unique look of the car is really awesome. Here in Cape Town, there are only a hand few of M135i and very few have any of the performance parts - mainly because they are super expensive.

Petay135 - Love the Rims!! Could you also please post a pic of your car with the front bumper? Would be awesome to see more of a 'real life shot' not one that's taken as propaganda Hahaha

Johnnydad - Very true as well. Once the parts do go on the car, it's highly unlikely we'll be able to get the value back!

I'm thinking I may just start light. A few additions here and there, instead of doing it all at once and landing up with a hand over my eyes. I will wait for some more opinions !

If I do anything to the car, I will post it here, so maybe you guys can comment? Also, if anyone else wants to post anything they have done to there car {Or get opinions as well}, with regards to the BMW Performance range for the M135i, please feel free to do so!

Just my 2 cents.... Based on what I've seen, keep the front stock and add carbon fiber looking lip spoiler.

Everything else going with the cosmetic performance parts looks cool.

People do that here actually with their cars~

Speaking of Performance Parts, with regards to the factory retrofit LSD....

I think they are cooperating with Drexler, which makes me think it's a clutch based LSD. However, our BMW is claiming here is no maintenance required. Just wondering~

Either way is fine, I just would like to find out if possible whether it's torque biased --> not likely need maintenance other than lubricant, or clutch based --> likely to need clutch change as well on top of lubricant~

It is clutch based, with 30 percent lockup under power and 9 percent while coasting. In my experience, the clutches will however last quite a long time. Maybe even the lifetime of the car. It is however important to use oil with additives for that type of clutch.

The BMW Z3 M Coupe had a very similar differential setup.

I hate the front lip because it makes it look so square.

every other m performance bit looks good.

Westphone - I will have to wait for it and I'm not too sure what the price will be in South Africa. The performance parts are really pricey! I am heading to BMW on Monday and see what they say about Warranty + Instalment of the LSD! Thanks so much for the advice!! Definitely will be an addition to the car, in a few months, if available.

///Chase - Awesome car! I thought the Alpine White looked sick, I haven't seen many black ones. I do however, prefer the M-Perfroamance look, for a white M135i!

Kribo - Whereabouts do you stay? Do you know any good SA sites I could get some quality parts from?

Thanks for all the replies guys!
I'll be heading to BMW on Monday to get quotes for things
Here's my list so far; {I know some of you guys wont agree hahahaha }

1 - Front + Back bumper
2 - Sills {Without M Sticker}
3 - Black Overhead Stripe
4 - M Performance Chassis
5 - M Performance Pedals {I own a Manual}

*6 - Either a; M - Performance Exhaust or Race Display Steering Wheel
{Any thoughts guys?}

I've read that the Alcantara looks awful when it gets worn out! Nevertheless, it would be something pretty awesome to have! Pretty unique, since I don't think any other brand offers anything like it?

Hope I'll get some more feedback! Thanks again

It's 160,000 NTD (our currency), it coverts to 3160 pounds, FYI.... Installation is included, friend wanted to install it so went down to BMW and asked, now he has to wait two weeks

That's about 1/10 of the actual car price, here in SA :O hahaha!!
Okay awesome, will definitely find out about it on Monday. Hopefully they'll have some sort of idea when we'll receive it - everything is very delayed down here!

How about the best looking bits of all the Perfomance stuff, the alcantara interior trim?

I know a guy waiting for the M235i. He chose to buy it without the BMW limited slip differential. Instead he will install a Quaife unit. It is significantly cheaper, and it does not void the warranty.

Howsit guys, sorry for the late reply!
So the parts are in JHB {Kribo }, they will have to be flown down! The only problem is, my BMW dealer or any actual BMW in the area dealer do not fit the exterior parts.

They have to DRIVE the car about 180km {111 Miles} to the fitting place. BMW charge R740 an hour {42 Pounds} but they have no clue how much the BMW panel beating place will charge me!

The entire process will take they said, about 8-10 hours, so labor becomes quite expensive. My main problem being that the exterior trim has to be done very far away. I also don't really trust anyone to drive my car that far, without me knowing how it is being driven!

So we are trying to get another BMW person/company to do the exterior, while the Chassis and perhaps the steering wheel will be fitted at my dealer!

Petay - Thanks for the confirmation in my choice! Going with the exterior bumper for sure!!

Vladberca - If I can't get the exterior done somewhere else, I will go that route! It will be too expensive for me to do the; full outside kit, chassis and steering, and still needing to pay a fortune for labor!

Cheers guys Thanks for all the help!!
