The active tourer is a people carrier with a format that is not really compatible with sporty behaviour anyway, even if it would have been RWD. It is simply too tall. It makes sense for it to have FWD for packaging reasons. (They should not have adapted it for AWD!)

It is more sad with the 1 series sedan and hatchback turning FWD. They would have been more fun to drive with RWD.

Ok buddy

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the JCW MCS the fastest production FWD car on the Nurburgring prior to the recent release of the 2015 Civic Type R? If so, perhaps it had a better pilot.

So how does Mini get away with it then?

So how does Mini get away with it then?

Maybe it is in front wheel drive and it's not just speed it's the enjoyment of rear wheel drive and this is not a Mini forum. I'll be laughed off construction sites driving Mini. Mini suits girls but even better if girls drive a rear wheel drive BMW.

Going vertical to accommodate a motor/trans is not the same.
I gather you are not putting the 2AT in the same category as these two.

The 2AT and the Mini and the future 1 series all have the same UKL platform. The engine and transmission is installed in the same way as in low cars, but the front overhang is rather short compared to most FWD cars. I think BMW prefers it that way.

Will the 1 Series Sedan be on sale in certain areas like just in China and the U.S. or will it be also predestined for the european market?

i'm hoping for a M135i xDrive version with a manual to go against S3 and CLA45 AMG... or maybe even go against the Golf R and Subaru WRX/STI

Not very uncommon for me. I have had to dig out snow from the front wheel wells many times on my rear wheel drive BMWs.

It is not. The next 3er due before the end of the decade is still RWD.

The Audi A3 is FWD.
if they started it they will continue, Why not?
lots of magazines and sites are kinda expecting that

I know the Audi A3 is FWD/Quattro, but with BMW losing its main ID against it...Audi A3 becomes a real player...it looks good and the interior is great.
So many chicken littles. Not enough time to educate them all.

I wonder what the largest brake setup will be developed for the FWD vehicles?

It's disappointing having moved to FWD, but at least there's an xdrive option. Shame the engine stop at 4 pots. It'd be nice if you could get the 3 litre diesel in the 2 series as well, even if it stopped with a 230d

The 3 is huge now!

A diesel wagon version would work for us as an A3 TDI replacement. Otherwise, no thanks.

With both of these: Look at the wheel well. The distance between the bottom right corner of the wheel well to the leading edge of the front door is shorter than the distance from the bottom left corner of the wheel to the tip of the front bumper. Those are the long front overhangs, and that proportion that I describe above -- to me -- is ugly.
