Most of us are. I was simply agreeing with the idea that BMW could probably do well in the market if they produce a car that looks, at least on the surface, like a decent alternative to the 911 base model.

Well it remains that BMW has neither a 911/GT competitor nor a Ferrari/McLaren competitor.

Either of which would be welcomed by many I expect.

But at what price? When the M4 GTS is already overpriced and compromises everyday use yet gets its ass whipped by much cheaper competitors...

The way Porsche has been trending, the best way to make the 'new 911 competitor' would be to reintroduce an older model, but with all the defective/recalled parts of the last 10 years; make every single item an optional add-on (passenger seat is optional - and did you want to add upholstery to that?); and double the cost of everything.

But I bet they are really aiming at Aston Martin - that's a real competition

Updated 1/17/17:

Verdict is still out whether this is the next gen 6 Series or a return of the 8 Series, but whatever it is it's big and sleek. Prototype coupes and convertibles were just caught undergoing cold climate testing. We'll have some video posted soon as well, so check back.

It's a SIX 666. No BMW is currently a 911 antagonist/alternative. And an 8 would be, simply stated, more elegant, beautiful, and different than anything ever seen - remarkable, and not looking like something so protean..... The context of the photos say '6', not 8 - there is no 'Presence' of an AMG or Mercedes competitor. And further, if a competitor is present, what,if anything, would set it apart?

I was thinking this as well. Would expect a 6 to look more in line with the G30. That rear end, and the overall size in general, screams 7 series. imo of course. Let the speculation continue

Might be the next gen 6 series. For what it's worth, the M5/6 are quite simply peerless in their "category". Nothing else comes close as demonstrated by many returning members on here.

Taking the fight to 911 are things like the 570s. Roughly 200K territory where there are other options, as well like a used 458. Not e'one is a porsche fan boy here esp. the 911 body shape.
