Preventing moisture related electrical issue

550i front headlamp assembly has undetermined moisture as a result of damaged lens. No current known electrical problems. Mechanic is insistent that I replace the entire head lamp to avoid future electrical problems.

I will take proactive steps to assess and address any additional moisture that may have reached the wiring harness. Having done so, is it safe to replace only the lense instead of entire headlamp?

Is lens replacement a diy activity?
