Want to hook me up with the person who can get you a new M2 for less than MSRP? Or a used one for wayyyyyy less. Might change my mind.
Just because he says he could get it for less than MSRP, means absolutely nothing.

Just a storyteller.

N55 with DCT FBO can become an M killer with proper tune and mods. This is on stock turbo.

Regardless, N55 isn't an M car worthy engine. If i'm buying an M car, it's in manual anyways. I really do think they should all have an M specific drivetrain. Thats half the attraction.

The 51k was in 3.7 out of 5 condition. Hence the $51k selling price. After recon it will be a 56k retail.

I sure as hell am. The stock car is down on power a bit. A simple tune and/or DP really wakes it up. I've test driven both the F80 and F82 ('16 models) and I have zero regrets in choosing the M2, not even taking into account the money savings.

And btw, ASAP is completely enamored with the F8x platform. You're pissing into the wind trying to win your arguments.

so was it a 135is or a 135i with a DCT swap? The DCT never came on a 135i.

It's not the first time CarWow do this, they have the transmissions in auto mode for rolling races. So it is more a test of how fast the transmission kicks down than a true test of acceleration capability. With the three DCT cars in manual mode in the right gear, the manual M2 would not stand a chance and the M4 would get trumped by the M5 ans M6.

This is a completely pointless video .
It took three pages to come across a post regarding the pointless video.

However, it didn't take others long to start arguing about the M2 and M4.

Ha! Yeah, ok. I've owned (2) 135's, e36, e46, and e92. The new F8x is not even close to being the best M platform. Read the pro reviews and comparisons. It's not even the best in it's class anymore. The Guilia QV blows it away on the track. I've also test drove one and had a BMW track day when I was considering trading in my e92 for a M4. Just because it's the fastest M3, doesn't mean it's the best. The car has no soul and it's not special. Sorry. I love BMW more than most people, but you're a homer if you can't admit it.
How can they test the QV? It breaks on every test..

I mean, how fast do you want your sports cars to be? If we are getting into the 3 second 0-60 range, how much of that speed is realistically usable on a day to day basis? I rather have a slower car with around 4.5-5s 0-60 that I can row through the gears without having to go mental speeds and getting arrested.

I just rewatched the video to get a bit more perspective - completely ridiculous that the M2 was a manual, that in itself is unfair, but secondly, why even bother to put these cars up against each other? The M4/5/6 are obviously quicker than the M2, what is it trying to achieve?
Also, he stated HE timed the cars to 60, I'd be really interested to see how he did that. The drag video totally contradicted the time of 5.2secs, with the M2 beating the M4 off the line and clearly doing better up until higher speeds.
I'm sure some of the facts about the M2 were wrong too.

Utter nonsense this video. Load of rubbish

Everyone is entitled to their own subjective opinion about these cars. You can like or dislike the M2, i dont care, i dont own any of these.

However, facts are facts. 1/4 mile times, DCT M2 is not that far off from a DCT M4 given that both cars are stock. M4 however will walk away after 100 mph. Many publications have tested this with consistent results. 12.5 sec for M4 and 12.8 sec for M2.

It is such a shame that a publication that was geared towards the enthusiasts can present such information and generalize and conclude that one car is much faster than the other in seemingly all circumstances. Unbelievable.

Just honestly sick of seeing the bashing of the M2. The heaps of praise the car has gotten has crawled under some people’s skin for whatever reason. So the first thing they do is attack the car and then next is exaggerate it’s availability and depreciation (there’s literally like fewer than 20 available total in the Us lol). It’s the same thing over and over and over again.

Not going to fight with you anymore. Enjoy your car. I’m sure I’ll enjoy my F80 ( freaking fiancé and her 4 door requirement) .

If you want to go fast in a straight line, there are lots of cars that beat the crap out of a BMW for less. The whole frickin' point of a BMW is turning the damn thing. The most valid criticism of the M2 is its weight. The current M3/4 are the size of an old M5 which was always sold as a sports sedan, not a nimble track animal. And that, for better or worse, are what 3/4s are today. The current 5 is really a hopped up former 7 it has grown so big. And that's why BMW is taking away the manual M5 and why it probably won't affect sales.

As for the Z4M, there is a reason it was pretty much rated last of sports cars in 2006/7 by nearly every enthusiast magazine (and the Cayman 1st btw). The suspension is brutal unless you're on a glass-flat road or racetrack, the car is twitchy as shit unless really dialed in, preferably professionally, and visibility sucks. That said, used as a dialed in track car, it's amazing and fun. And it is a fine looking machine. I understand the love, but know what it is. Flame on.

I guess we have not been reading the same reviews . Stock for stock, the F8X and Giulia QV are pretty evenly matched on track, with the M3/4 being faster in some test and the Giulia in others. And this despite the Giulia having R-Compound tires and 55-80 more hp. Slap a set of R-comps on the F8X (like proper track rats do) and the Giulia will not be able to keep up.

Probably a couple of years before I'll make the move, but torn between an M2 and M3. I love videos like this, but I'm wondering how the M3 and M4 perform against each other. Same engine, but weight & handling differences of note? I love teh utility of having a sedan, but I've been considering an M2 and a winter-beater truck.

Nope. Not even close:

0.3-0.4 seconds at 118mph translates to an over 50-70 feet lead at the quarter mile mark. The M2 is one great little car, however facts are facts .

5.2s in the M2? Either their metrics are flawed or that's one shitty driver.

Yeah, if pure speed in a straight line is your thing, get a Tesla... (computer on wheels with no soul - and very heavy but torque is outrageous -- ludicrous even

OMG. The car with 80 more HP, oodles more torque and a 25k price premium (comp package) won!?

Who would have thought!?

Edit: here goes the M2 right behind the M4 GTS when you start requiring that the cars actually turn.

Super easy to cherry pick favorable times and videos.
