Lap times, M135i

Just looking at a few lap times for the M135i on Fastestlaps - quite a few more have appeared recently.
It's 'Ring time isn't great IMO (others have been done with a stripped car, closed track and pro driver -the M135i wasn't any of those) but on several other tracks, it still punches WAY above it's weight.

Considering it's actually a pretty comfortable car and not track focussed, it's even more impressive and it also gives the "direct competition" a bloody nose of a few circuits.

I can't say I was all that quick (10s behind the M135i time!) on my track day but it was a lot of fun - far more practise needed but the brakes didn't cook, the gearbox was great and it had more than enough power. Just need to crack my chicanes - that's where I was weakest.

I would expect the F20 to do rather well on the Ring because of the rather soft suspension setup and good balance. It works well on bumpy tracks with lots of elevation changes. Maybe the poor aerodynamics is a disadvantage on the high speed sections.

I reckon with the conditions other hot hatches have had, it could do very well. But no one has tried yet. The time set was by a very good driver but it was on an open course (other cars around) with no track prep. Get a closed, dry circuit with a race driver and I reckon it would do another giant killing Top Gear style lap.

Bedford West (where I tracked mine) was a little too tight/small to take advantage of its power; it favours very small, light cars.

Do you have the Performance LSD?
This will help you to improve your track times!
Do you have any clips taken during your track sessions?

No, only photos.
No LSD; my nearest track is 3.5 hours away so that track day is likely to be a one off.
It's me that needs improving, not the car!

3.5 hours is not so much. The two tracks I visit most often, are 7 and 9 hours away.

You are clearly very dedicated!
The roads here (out of the holiday season) are superb so I get my fix there.
If I lived nearer a track, I'd be there all the time.

Averaged 8mpg on that track day. Tee hee.

Our 116i can do 5.0 L/100 km out on public roads, and over 20 L/100 km on track days.

Tomorrow I will spend most of the day travelling to an ice racing weekend. :-)

Yes, it is. It is not really racing. It is a weekend on a frozen lake track. It is more about drifting and car control than lap times.

They did that in Alpe d'Huez when I was skiing; a perfect view of it from the chairlift. Looked great fun!
