Battery Replacement

I have a 2006 325i the dealer is quoting me price of $400 plus to replace the battery which includes "registration" what does that mean and if I went to a shop that has prior experience working on BMW's exclusive would they be able to do the same "registration" or can only the dealer do it? I've been given a quote of $159.95 including installation.

The car tracks the behavior of the battery when charging and discharging and stores battery adaptation values as the battery ages. You need to reset the battery adaptation values when you change the battery. Some of the better diagnostic tools can do this. Code readers can't.

Get an Optimoa Redtop and be done with it. You will need to have some kind of braket to hold it in place. They're sealed and last a long time.
Interstate has a direct replacement unit that has the vent tube in the right place.

A stereo shop is usually pretty cheap place to get a braket done.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
