I think those who really know are not yet allowed to tell us.
My guess is that there will be two models replacing the F20. One with FWD and small engines, and one with RWD and big engines. |

As much as I read and heard about the next 1 series, it's probably going to be FWD.

I mean two completely different cars. BMW seems to be willing to have a rather wide range of models. BMW have pretty much confirmed that the next one series will be FWD, but people working for BMW have also ensured me that there will be a small sporty model with RWD as well. I guess something like the M135i, which will be unaffordable in Norway. So I am afraid the F20/F21 will be the last affordable RWD hatchback in the market.

I doubt that small sporty model will be a hatchback. I've come across some information (can't remember where, maybe from SCOTT26) that MINI will be making a RWD car, don't know if it's just a rumor or not, but then it would make sense to make a small RWD car for BMW, just not a hatchback, probably.

FWD for the 1 series and RWD for the 2 series which is more or less the same size and will probably be a 4 door version also. Something like the 3 series and 4 series.

This is partly the reason for the creation of the 2 series. The next 1 series will be FWD and the next 2 series will continue to be RWD.
This is what I have read in many reliable sources. Obviously nothing is set in stone until BMW actually announce & release the cars. |
