BMW should power the rear wheels with an electric motor and get the i8 fanboys behind this vehicle.

I'm pretty sure a M7 has been confirmed. Google it

BMW Group U.S. Reports August 2014 Sales

BMW brand sales up 11.0 percent
MINI brand sales down 16.9 percent

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1031128

With Mini shittin' the bed, even with new models, BMW has to make a move ... Would you pay $40K for a Mini or would you rather have a fwd BMW? ... question answered!

I had a chance to drive the active tourer yesterday with FWD and I was impressed. Nothing beats the RWD in performance but it was by far the best handling FWD (everyday) car I drove.

There is an US emissions issue with The new MINI at the moment meaning stockpiles of the F56 will not go to US customers until October.
Its a different story elsewhere the new F56 is a global hit , and the F55 5dr MINI already has a huge order bank. Next year will see the launch of the JCW MINI , MINI Cabrio which will launch in LA in November. And the all-new MINI Clubman.
The next generation MINI Countryman shared with the BMW X1 has started public testing.

A full M7 will be considered if the overall reaction to the G11 warrants customer need for such a model.

That is too late in the product life cycle. A M7 could get a V8 derived V10, xDrive and DCT from X5/X6 M, to differentiate it from the others, both BMWs and rivals, and so have a USP.

Some of these customers are not enthusiasts. Many would simply chose because of connectivity or style which shows how progressive the world and market has become.

Cars in the compact segment have to be competitive in anyway possible. To achieve space and flexibility requirements demanded by customers then they must be FWD. Sharing with MINI increases the profit margin and is cost effective for further applications across the architecture.

Of course its about profit the company still needs to make money and survive in a highly contested market. And these compact models bring in huge profits Besides the profits must come in to bring a further radical M3 or something else.
Great story bro...

Too bad BMW are decade too late.. & instead of telling Americans, you should've been listening to us... so what is fundamentally wrong with the M135i..? Or how all those people over the last ten years that have been asking (screaming) for a RWD hatchback... are wrong..?

Other than from a marketing standpoint, what you suggest above is hilarious. Because BMW have PUPOSELY kept hatchbacks in any form (sedan, coupe or wagon) from American soil...

How hilarious is that..?

Hi Scott,

Could you please confirm or deny whether there will be a 2 series GranCoupe with the present RWD platform?

Just to know if it has any sense to keep waiting for it...

Many thanks,
Jesus

I have a 2013 MINI GP and a F80 M3. To be honest, I would rather drive the GP day to day. It's more fun! So there is hope yet for a FWD BMW. However I do feel sad that the M2 is going to be the last small RWD BMW I buy.

I do not state specifically America. Remember BMW are catering to the global market. Sticking to one market is myopic at best and not good for growth.
Every business in the global market has to grow and adapt or die.

I've totally given up on this. Those dicks teased me with enough rumours and renders to make me think my new ride in September '15 would be a 235i GC. Instead I am offered a wrong-wheel-drive cookie-cutter shitbox.

Thanks, but I'd rather drive a Focus.

Doesn't make any sense to me unless this is going to be offered in Europe where the 1 series hatch starts around 18k pounds and the two series 24k pounds but I dont see a market in the US for the car
I think the 320i is a stop gap to try and battle the A3 and CLA on price. They don't have anything in that segment in the US and they couldn't let Audi and Merc take the whole market, so they had to try and do something. Once they have a bonafide competitor in that segment with the new 1 series, they will probably start the 3er at the 328i (soon to be 330i) and drop the 320i.

I fail to understand how 1999 was almost 20 years ago, as much as I fail to grasp how a wrong-wheel-drive BMW can be construed as even slightly acceptable. You know who will buy it? Badge riders. Great.

I (and am sure others have) noticed you've not commented on whether the 2 series will go FWD... Any reason ?

BMW doesn't care who buys their cars. All they care about is the bottom line, as any business should. However, they shit talked FWD for many years and now they look like idiots and have to backpedal by claiming that "technology has advanced in 20 years, blah blah blah". What's good for BMW is that most people simply do not remember those ads.

Here is an ad for RWD from 2006
