If it looks anything close to that I would get it. I was a fan of the 3 series until the F30 came out- so big and not really sporty anymore. The 4 is also very big. If they have a 2 GC or if the 1 looks like the render I would be definitely be interested.

It looks good. Although I'm sure this is not an accurate rendering since I expect it to have lot sleeker head and rear lights plus more sculpted bodywork and even some intriguing(polarising?) details like most BMWs of late.

I don't know why you don't like it people though, to me it generally looks better than a standard 3-Series.

Not a fan of the front. Seems a bit "pinched/squished."

Ditto. In m-sport with awd, where do I sign?

Not bad looking render. Actual car will be different but this is prob a decent idea of the overall look. I'm sure this car will be a fantastic seller for BMW, especially if performance is better than A3 or CLA250.

While looks are subjective, if people think BMW has got lazy with their designs, Audi must be in a comatose state because their cars for the longest time have looked the same. It's like all they do is keep the shape and add a small detail and voila, new model. The A3 is such a boring, dumpy looking car, makes the CLA actually look a lot better than it is.
Exactly right. Looks are subjective. Although I own a BMW, I love the Audi design language. The S3, S5 and RS7 all look absolutely stunning to me. If the M2 GC does not come, I would like to consider a RS5 or a RS3 Sedan. My $0.02

Okay. One more time. To render, means to draw. A rendering, is the drawing, or illustration. This is not a 'render', this is a rendering. A representation how the car may look, executed in perspective and done for purposes of presentation.

Every time you say you like or don't like this 'render', you are saying you don't like this 'draw'. You wouldn't normally say that would you?

Carry on.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

let me give an example for you: I don't like this rendering, nor BMW's marketing department

I quite like the looks of this car and I have been hoping for a fun small saloon from BMW for a few years... and then it becomes known that it will be FWD.
The A3 Saloon is already in this niche, why not make the 1 saloon RWD and have a USP other than having kidney grills!?

There must be a good reason for it, but I wonder why you can't build a fwd car with a rwd proportion? It must be the transverse mounting of the motor dictates where the wheels are relative to the nose of the car. But that long bonnet and tight front overhang is what makes a BMW... this is a Mini.

I have absolutely been waiting for this car for a long time, I need it to be available with a stick so I can replace my E90 with it. FWD is a disappointment, though I hope it is available with a RWD-biased torque split. Most importantly, this car needs to come with a stick and the x-drive. Like a Mini does.

SCOTT26... why didn't BMW just take the E90 platform and start selling it as a 1 series, like they did with the X1? Now that the 3er is huge, the E90 is a small car! I know the E90 tooling was sold off, but it's a shame to waste such a brilliant platform like that.

I think that answear is still NA as of now.
I hope it will be a RWD, but having driven the 2AT i understand the concept of such a car beeing FWD based.

It has to do with weight distribution. A rear wheel drive car needs more weight on the rear wheels, while a front wheel drive car needs more weight on the front wheels. Since the location of the engine and passenger compartment is pretty much fixed, they adjust the axle balance by relocating the axles.

The current 2 series has the same proportions a the e36 sedan. If they can make a 2 series sedan, grand coupe, whatever, at this size, there would possibly be a group of e36 e46 devotees that have a model to migrate to.

Regarding the notion of fwd, Gm makes front wheel drive cars, does that diminish the value proposition of the corvette?

Porsche makes fwd cars too, they are called vws. Bmw needs the scale to compete globally.

Who cares what it looks like. A FWD BMW , never though I'd see the day. This a sales/volume model, and will just become a generic car to blend in with all the japanese/korean compacts. There is no real reason to pick a BMW over any other car if this is the path they choose.

That's right, because no one is on this site who follows the 1 series, or i3 or Diesel 3 series or any SUV from the X series line. All "Ultimate Driving Machines" <cough!>

BMW has a broad line of cars that appeal to a wide array of customers.
