Smile 8 Day Euro Roadtrip Blog

In a little over a week, i'm setting off on this year's Euro Roadtrip, so i thought i'd write this mini blog. Obviously, i'll write a proper roundup afterwards with photos and videos, but for now, i'll be posting photos/video/notes as and when.

I'm mostly prepped, have most things sorted, however, still got a list of things to do

Already done:

Oil and filter change
Swiss / France / Austrian / German tags/vignettes
New tyres all round
Headlight adapters fitted
Euros
Hotels booked
Sat Nav programmed
Cleaned the leather seats
Hoovered the carpets as they were disgusting

To do list:

Travel Insurance
Eurotunnel API form
Finish cleaning car
Pack suitcase

Eurotunnel train departs 25th June at 7.36am

Enjoy your trip! Any exact plans on where to travel and what (driving!) roads are ahead of you?

Hey, this a great trip! I already ahve a similar one planned driving from Greece to UK from cosat to coast, and then returning through the middle hitting up Nurberg and San bernadino Pass (dunno if your route brings you through here - but it is by far, one of the ultimate must drive routes for any car enthusiast).

It doesn't, but i started with a list of roads that was massive!! I went through and crossed off ones that were too remote, or weren't even tarmaced!

In truth, i discarded enough roads to do another 8 days

Passo di Giau, Sella Passo, Timmelsjoch, Furka Pass, GlossGlockner Pass and Grimselpass are wonderful passes to drive.

IF you go to Stelvio, Gabia Pass(near by) was quite scary! Take your heart meds, my heart was pumping after driving up that crazy pass. (no guard rails!!!)

Looking forward to all your pics!

Is Forcella Lavardet possible by car?

Gavia pass is indeed pretty awesome.

Foreign road vignettes stuck to windscreen, although i think my Austrian one might be on the wrong side of the windscreen?

The Austrian and Swiss Vignettes can go anywhere on the windshield(for the cameras and Polizei to read/scan them).

Exclamation Vignette(Pickerl - German slang)

I always place mine in the middle top near the mirror. Just don't put it under the dark tinted part of the windshield.

Always fully affix the decal to the inside windshield. If not it can cost you a 500 euro fine. Not having a vignette will cost you 120 euros now. AND.. you must have an Austrian Vignette BEFORE entering Austria(via an Autobahn). You can buy an Austrian vignette at most German gas stations near the border or when traveling in the direction of the border(Grenz).

Place the Vignette like in these examples...
Name: vignetten anbringung.gif
Views: 3309
Size: 12.5 KB

and always from the inside! (I know of some people who affixed their vignettes to the outer glass!
Name: Vignette pio_014x7.jpg
Views: 3467
Size: 62.0 KB

Don't let your windshield end up looking like this!
Name: vignette -sm.jpg
Views: 4033
Size: 337.2 KB

And once back home... save your ED memories.

I'd have a few vignettes by now, but have a habit of destroying windscreens, lol

Pre-roadtrip wash / wax / detail. The weather has been awful this week, so time has been limited. Therefore i brought my mate in, pro-detailer, and we tag teamed the car. 4 hours later.....
