Arrow We tour the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum - Timmelsjoch, Alps...

Timmelsjoch... also known as Solden Pass (Solden/Soelden/Sölden) in Austria. Located just a few hours(2.75hrs) from Munich. Some of you may recall that Sölden Pass is where the James Bond film Spectre, was filmed. You have to drive a little bit past Sölden to get to the top of Timmelsjoch. But it's well worth it. Actually there a few "little" passes in this area. But Timmelsjoch is the main event. The pass connects Austria with Italy. And it's a great road!

The toll plaza(14 euros one way) to drive on/up the Timmelsjoch pass has gone thru a major makeover. Now they have built a state of the art cable car that can take you up the mountain. But I did not come for that! They also built a really nice restaurant - to warm up inside in. But I did not come for that!! WHAT I did come here for... was their brand new motorcycle museum! First off I should say I am not really into bikes. But any kind of machine... I find interesting. I had been seeing pictures of the Museum's buildup... and I really was intrigued to see it for myself. They did have a few cars, but for the most part this is motorcyle museum. I must say I was not disappointed. I enjoyed looking around this stunning museum.

I was kind of surprised to see quite a few BMW bikes on display from the BMW Museum here. The little display with the Isetta was really well done. At first I did not even notice the old photos and posters were provided by the BMW Museum and BMW Classic.

After the museum, I sampled the restaurant's menu. It was a decent place to stop for a bite - but nothing really special. Just a nice place to eat. They did have some great views up in the Alps here - you just don't find that in most places.

So walk along with me as I show you this new Museum. I often drive from the Austrian side, and down into Italy. It's a great mountain pass. You just have to be weary(on the lookout) for wild cattle on the road. More of that later.

For now, enjoy my pictures.

Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum
Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstraße
6456 Hochgurgl, Austria (Österreich)

Hours:

Open 9am until 7pm.

Be advised that the mountain pass(Timmelsjoch) is closed during the winter months(winter-sper). But I believe the museum and restaurant is open. Winter runs from Nov until June. Check with their website for more info.

Beware of cattle!

Ohh... one more thing... You should be aware of wild cattle and animals when driving any of these mountain passes. But especially Timmelsjoch. We have never had any problems... but on this year's Sella 3.0 tour we did have a close call...

a real road sign(that we saw in Switzerland)...

One of unlucky members on Timmelsjoch this summer... luckily no contact... but a very close call!

Thanks Dackel. The Ferrari and Aston look great. Good amount of cool bike there! I like the old signage and petrol pumps, they're always cool to see.

Those cows look like could leave a mark! Although it's avoid the deers in Pennsylvania right now!

Awesome - what an amazing place, an absolute fortune in hardware in there!

Currently drive a 1200GS (my third in a row!) - was curious as to which model/year this beauty was ('30s maybe?) - shaft drive and for a moment I thought it was not boxer but on a second look I guess it is?

Cheers, C.

The location is excellent and design of the museum awesome.

Great pictures as usual. That green Porsche Speedster looks fantastic.

The pictures provided by BMW Classic provide a perfect backdrop to the bike displayed below it.

Just awesome Dackleone.

Close! It was a model R42 from 1928. It had a 12 PS boxer motor with shaft drive.

Dackel,

Thanks for the great photos from the museum and mountain pass!

I especially enjoyed seeing the "board racetrack" display. Board-track racing was very popular in the U.S. during the 1920s, with cars and motorcycles reaching much higher speeds on the banking than at Indianapolis.

The museum had some very interesting cars along with the bikes, including the Aston Martin DB5, Ferrari 275 GTB, and the Porsche 356 convertible. (I owned a 1963 Porsche 356B for a number of years, and I decided not to buy a 1960 Aston Martin DB4 that was for sale for $3,000. That was a huge mistake…)

It looks like you had a great outing, and I'm glad that the cows decided not to gang up on you!

Rick

Seeing this museum reminds me of the motorcycle museum at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham in the US which has some 1200 or so bikes inside

http://www.barbermuseum.org

There are just enough cars to keep an auto enthusiast happy , and so many interesting motorcycles that an any gearhead could get lost admiring all the machinery for a couple of hours.

LOVE the MV Augusta pickup !

Yup, it was. And it's only gonna get better with time!

Btw... the very first room in the museum is this hap-hazard room filled with weird bikes and a few cars/trucks. Upstairs was were the "jewels" of the museum were kept. But some of the "stuff" down here was also very cool!

Great photos, thanks for sharing. Just recently have been hearing about a huge private motorcycle museum near Albany NY, for those who crave this stuff (not sure about the name of it). No passport needed, but you won't get the same angry-cow action.
