LCI2 - oil temp gauge - FINALLY !!!

Interesting - M2 has coolant temp....

....whereas Mx40i LCI2 has oil temp gauge.

I wonder if this LCI2 oil temp gauge can be retrofitted to older cars.....

I've seen somewhere that it could be coded to cars with B coded modular engine family.

That would be great if it could be coded to older cars.
I bought a P3 gauge, mostly to see oil temp.

I went with the M Performance wheel with the LED display for the temp gauges

I installed my P3 gauge last night. I was suprised how quickly these cars warm up and how hot they run, that's probably why they didn't put in a gauage.

It's winter here (around 12c this morning) and oil was 70c within a few minutes and settled around 105c.

I suspect concern about how owners might read an oil temp gauge vs a coolant temp gauge is one of the reasons BMW has been reticent on this. I have both on another car, which runs "cool"; the coolant typically sits around 75-85C (it has a 75C thermostat) and the thermo fan kicks in at 85C. At a coolant temp of 85C u dear load, oil temperature is typically around 120C. This can be too hot for certain low grade oils but a high performance oil such as Motul easily copes with temps >150C (which I've never seen!)

All 1 series LCI2 tachos show oil temp gauge by default, even 118i. On older tachos, you can code it to show coolant temperature if you have "B" series engine. It will be great if you can code older tachos to show oil temp.

So on my LCI1 F20 B38 118i, I can have a coolant temperature gauge simply by coding?

Yes, just activate "BC_MOTORTEMP_ENABLE" in KOMBI.

Correction m2 has coolant and oil temps

In photo - symbol plus 'OK' is coolant status ie text says cold/ok/hot. Beneath is the coloured bar chart graphic showing oil temp with mid point circa 120 deg C and FSD of +/- 50deg c for lower/upper oil temp ranges...

Are you sure of that? Then all B series engines can show coolant and oil temperatures via BC_MOTORTEMP coding.

I'm saying this because there is coolant temp symbol but not oil temp symbol at that KOMBI screen. But if you're saying it with measurements or actual info, then that's great news.

I've monitored during warm up on M2, when symbols say "OK" but oil temp pointer most of the way over to the LHS of coloured bar graphic. Verified by hidden menu too.

So YES I'm sure of it as an M2 owner with N55 engine - can't comment on B engines tho'.

(http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1201088):

"Engine temperature display

Displays the current engine temperature,
based on a combination of coolant and engine
oil temperature
. As soon as the optimum operating
temperature has been attained, the indicator
is in the center position.
If the engine oil or coolant, and thus the engine,
become too hot, a Check Control message
is displayed too."

Once reposted, I won't help noticing the slide bar looks ugly.

Thus I suggest the reading is not "coolant temp. is +26.5 C which is COLD and the door is only slightly open ", it's "ambient temp. is +26.5 C, the engine is only a little warm which is effectively COLD, a door is open". They aren't too accurate with the icon (regarding the calendar one, by the way, I initially thought the "1" within was the car's age or maintenance stint and expected it to turn "2" appropriately. ).

A white over blue, "bride" over "lone bitch" (regarding M2) should deserve congratulations, perhaps.

.

M2 is a different story: it always had it (even pre-LCI).

On their website they say it's for all models, 2011-2019, so I think it will work. Try to email them your VIN number just to be sure.

This doenst work for my F20 LCI B48. I have coded BC_MOTORTEMP_ENABLE to aktiv. The gauge shows up in the BC. But it aint working, needle and symbol stays COLD. I have updated my ilevel, but no luck.

I have the "old" 6WA cluster. Anybody a clue why this aint working? Will a upgrade to a black panel cluster (LCI2) work?

Hello! Can you tell me your new ilevel? Did something change after that update? Gearbox, smoothness etc? I want to do an upgrade and I'm curious. Thanks!
