18 or 19 inches... BBS SX

Hello everyone,

I just got a BMW 120d M Pack LCI F20! Very happy with the car except for the rims. I was expecting to receive the 18 inch rims which come stock with all the other BMW 1 series LCI M packs, however I received it with the smaller 17s which I find to not be very attractive. I have decided rather than getting BMW rims that I would get an after market rims. I have decided on the BBS SX in Brilliantsilver. However I am conflicted as to which size to get between 18" and the 19"(not even considering the 17" they are way too small for my taste). Any input would be greatly appreciated. From what I've seen 19" seem to be a very close fit, however they seem to be too large for the car. However the 18" seem to be not a significant increase in size from the 17", but I may be wrong.

Also on a sidenote, which tires are considered the best for this car?

Thank you all very much!

I would take a look at the stock M135i size with Michelin Pilot Supersport tyres. 19" is definitely possible, but the car will perform better on 18".

Not the BBS but you can see the 19" wheels here.

Looks good.

Similar to OEM style 397 from f3x series.

Refurbed in ferric grey before I installed on my m135i

BBS look like a flat wheel face where as style 397 are more concaved

Thank you all very much for your comments, and for showing your magnificent cars! I have decided to take the 18" as the 19"s appear to be too big for my car. I will be ordering it soon and will hopefully show pictures of the results.

The 397 works well with the f20... Looks like a smaller wheel in the f3x's arches
...
Indeed. The SX's spokes outer back actually protrude from the rim when the wheel is observed in profile... Then they merge towards the center forming a slight concavity. I guess the wheel in ET30 will have a more concave look, fender clearance should then be marginal I believe.

BTW is that the front mperformance disc (o37)? Waiting for my yellow mp kit in a couple weeks time and a tad anxious about how they will clear the 18s. We'll see if next mod money goes to new wheels.

GeeZee

Yes MPPK 370mm discs and f30 m sport cailpers to match the std blue calipers at the rear.

Braided hoses, DOT5.1 BF and m4 sport brake pads - brakes are superb.

Did you ever put on the BBS wheels. I am in a similar situation like you and I like these as option. My question is would the rim be too wide for the front or be stickkmg out too much as its a 8.0j rim. What size tyres did you go with and any pics would be great.

Messi,

My 397's are 8" wide and ET34mm c/w Mich PSS 225/40/18 tyres. There's no issues with rubbing etc eventhough I have M4 lower control arms fitted and lowered springs.

Any reason you didn't go 245 in the rear? The OEM spec is 245 in the rear?
