i'll live in a 1000 sq. ft. apt on Rodeo drive in beverly hills for $1500 / mo. versus living in a 2000 sq. ft house in COMPTON or South Central LA for the same price. Everything is relative! There is no right answer. you also have to understand there was an article that compared buying a home vs. living in an apartment. And it went to showed that if YOU knew your finances and accounting, that assuming all equal cost, that living in an apartment and saving the difference and putting it in savings compounds faster after 30 years versus the appreciatio of a house. That is also because a savings account doesn't lose equity, only inflation. But a house can not only lose value due to inflation but also due to the volatile market. |

Live at home like me. Woo.
I'd like to have my own place though. A BMW eventually just becomes a means of taking me from point A to B rather than a luxury or cool car.

his point is really just asking if it is smart to spend too much money on a car when he does not have a house yet.

If it was a nice apartment in a good neighborhood I'd get another BMW before I upgraded. Who cares if I have messed up priorities? I'm still driving a BMW.

Watch this video, I laughed so hard when I was shopping for a car (I like Merc's but I feel that's when I retire). It's so true. So a 3-series in an apartment seems fine. Though if you have a 5-series or above and living in an apartment, your priorities are definitely in need of adjustment. Though who am I to judge, if you analyze my situation, i'm not much better! Not sure why this matters at all? Do what you like and what makes you happy.

Do you know whats worse then living in an apartment and driving a bmw. Living in your parents house and driving a bmw!!! If you can pay for an apartment and bmw then great. Be ashamed of all the poor kids who live off of mommy and daddy which actually have no money at all.

There's no such thing as a $1500 apartment on Rodeo with a Beverly Hills address. I had a condo in Carmel Mountain that size, and it was more than that. |

I've only been out of college a couple year so Im under 30 but I've already owned two BMWs (04 E46, 08 E92) and lived in apartments. Should I be saving for a house, probably, but I looked at it like this...I'll probably get a house when I get married and when I get married I won't be able to just go out and upgrade BMWs every few years due to a wife. So I might as well have fun now and drive an expensive car. |

I am 30 living in an apartment owning a BMW. Would I like a house? Sure is it a priority? Nope. I like not having to deal with all the BS attached to owning a house right now. Plus im not sure where I am in life, meaning finding a girl to spend life with, which state do I want to live in, which job to I want to cahnge to in my current career(thankfully I can do that). I guess the most important piece of info is that I live in an apartment by choice not by financial reasons.
