Disney may be king @ $170 per day, but even lesser ones I think are pricey.

So, my wife was meeting our friends today and it would been $291 for 5 people.

We decided to buy season passes for 2017, so it will cost them only $50 as our guests.

Here comes the point--did you really save $241, or should the price have been $50 all along?

AAA has a savings of $1.50 per ticket (I'm a s***** had AAA Plus for 3 years, never used it, that's like $300)

I'm gonna create a thread about not needing to create threads for everything. "This thread is worthless"

No interest, so why not? Wifey and the kids love it so I gotta make them happy, though I enjoy going to the parks myself

I'm just talking about pure expense, not value, real or perceived. And yeah, no interest is like free money.

Wife and i just paid $4k for a group of people to set up our tent, cook breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks as well as support us as needed for 5 days while we ride our bikes the length of Montana from Canada to Wyoming. I totally get that theme parks are worth it to many, especially families. But still damn expensive.

However, my fondest childhood memories came from National Parks more so than theme parks.

The cheeky side of me would claim that strictly speaking everything is appropriately priced because theme park prices are set based on consumer demand. If everyone on earth thought Disney tickets @ $170/day were too expensive and nobody went, Disney would lower their prices accordingly.

Disney and similar theme parks are priced to where I'd visit once or twice in my life (I already have) and no more.

Disney targets households with at least $100k annually and ppl keep coming so their prices will continue to rise and won't let up. I remember going every year from 2005 through 2009 and ticket prices have increased way over 50% in that span.

I spent all my money buying some 'FUN' instead of going to the parks. The return was much better over the course of years.

Ok that was not true. But I have been watching that one for many years. Never bought. Should have : /.

Let's not even talk sporting events...Took my kids to a NY Mets game, even with free tickets from a buddy (face value of seats = $125 per!) the food itself put a dent in my wallet. Water bottle = $5! Beer = $9! Cotton candy . . . 9 innings later, my wallet was $130 bucks lighter.
This.

Even with free tickets it's insanely expensive to see or do anything. It's $25 for parking here too.

I just took my wife and three kids to Kings Island the other day. Luckily I picked up tickets to the main park and water park for about 35% off through my work discount. Still crazy high though. I guess that drives the pricing of FUN in my above post!

They have an outstanding kids park btw.

I went to the county fair (and saw STYX for "free"!) Just the wife and I. We parked off-site and took the shuttle. Had a corndog, bacon-wrapped hot dog, fries, a soda, and a Kettle Lemonade. Bought a dozen mini donuts and lb. of fudge. We left $80-something lighter than we got there.

You think Disney admission tickets are pricey, try the VIP tour. Done it a few times. Awesome but crazy pricey.

IIRC, six hour minimum @ $400 per hour?

And more during peak times, up to 600. Universal vip is a bargain by comparison.

Disney is not $170/day...what part is $170/day? All in?

Disney park tickets are around $55/day w/ Park Hopper when staying a week. If you stay one day, it's over $100 for that day, but you're an idiot if you go to Disney World for a day.

If you think theme parks are expensive, you probably haven't travelled much. Theme parks give you 24/7 activities, shows, and non stop entertainment, particularly at Disney.

Go to a destination like a beach and you'll be paying a la carte for every activity, plus through the nose for hotel/food.

I spent $18,000 for 2 people in Tokyo for 12 days and about $12,000 in the Caymans. Travel isn't cheap and this isn't limited to theme parks.

I find theme parks good value considering all the entertainment you get.

A $2 hour movie with popcorn, drink, and some snacks will cost you close to $100 for 2 and it's over in 2 hrs.

A broadway show? $400 for tickets alone and $150 for dinner.

Sporting event? $100 for crappy tickets, $40 for parking, and $50 for a couple hot dogs, peanuts, and some drinks.

If you want to save money, stay at home.

Six Flags, on the other hand, is awesome in my opinion. Discount tickets are easily accessible and are relatively cheap. If you could find time to go on a weekday when the lines are under a 15 minute wait for most rides it's a blast.
Six Flags blows and I've been to like 6 of them. Their shows are terrible, the rides are essentially all rollercoasters, and nothing is indoors. Awful place.
