For those who are down on BMW for the exterior of this car, have some hope for future variations. Just look back at recent history... here's a version of the normally beautiful E46 that never made it to the US either:

This is exactly what i have always thought, and written in other forums.
It's not BMW that is copying VW, it's the other way around.

I add also that the looks of the new Audi A3 are really uneventful, it's the same old Audi style seen over and over again.

For some reason, in the red Sport version all the creases on the hood and front bumper get washed out. It's amazing how the blue Urban version looks so much better, it's the same car, same lights, same grill, but you can see the definition and creases which make it look more aggressive. The red color makes it look just to soft and round.
This is only because the two pictures have been taken in totally different lighting conditions and at different times of the day.

Yes, that is why.

My point is, save judgement for when you see it in person. You can't base a final decision on pics.

I predicted the 5GT to suck and I was right. I am still waiting for the e90 3-series to "grow on me."

I am starting to think that I am pretty good at interpreting from pictures.

Some designs really are just plain Bad.

The screen most definitely ISN'T pop-up, it's just designed that way. Same on the 6 Series

This is what USED to (under Bangle) set BMW apart. They left the "every model must look the same" era of the e46, e38, e39 to the every model has a different style (e65/66, e60, e87, e90, e92) which was risky and innovative and it PAID OFF.

Now under Van Hooydonk it seems they want to be like Audi and VW with the "every model looks the same" philosophy.

Hell I am BMW obsessed and I can't tell the difference between the F01, F10 at first glance. If I spent $200k on an F01 i'd like it to look a little better than a 5er.

The E90LCI, F01 7er, F10 5er, F12 6er, X1 and now the F20 all have the same 4 creases on the bonnet, which I specifically dislike too.

So now, with 1 style for all cars, if you don't like the look, there is no BMW for you!

At least under Bangle era where all models had unique style, if you didn't like the e87 you might like the e90 or the e60.. There was something to hold onto..

I hope this is just what the hatch will look like and the coupe will have different headlights!!

Also, I think the interior is so-so. Although it supposedly uses better materials, and overall it's more driver-oriented, I think there is too much going on. The center console and dash are okay, but take a look at the doors––both handles, all of the surfaces, pockets--all of them converge at different angles..it's just too busy..something I would expect from an overdone Japanese interior.

Maybe Audi look boring and all the same, but they never really look ugly. We buy BMW for what they are and not for what they look like, but still it would be kind on BMW's part to give us some good looking cars, we pay them anyway.
The X3 F25 looked very bad, IRL it looks better than Q5. I don't think it will be the case of the 1 Series F20. I just hope BMW won't f*** up the 3 Series F30, because my next car is going to be the M3 F32.

I don't car about the 1 Series F20 any way, my car looks better eventhough it is elder: see pic

What I want to know is how much it weighs, if it is lighter than the previous.

Can't see why not considering they are just m3 parts. We already put those on our cars with no issue. The rear diff cover won't work though. Hpautowerks is going to be selling one of those soon for our cars.

So I guess the worst thing is the headlights.
Now if only the grills lost some height from the bottom section, so basically more distance between the number plate and the bottom of the grille
They would look good
