BIMMERPOST NEWS

COMMENTS

We're coming to you live from the 2012 Paris motor show and our first car covered is the BMW M135i 3-door hatchback. This model had its world public debut at the 2012 AMI show in May, but its showing here at the 2012 Paris motor show represents its biggest audience yet.

With this model, BMW's all-wheel drive system xDrive sees its premiere in the BMW 1 Series. This system, which distributes drive torque variably between the front and rear axle, is now available for the compact model for the first time.

Below are the the vitals on this newest model to the BMW M Performance Automobiles lineup. The F21 M135i will unfortunately not make it to North America.

Full M135i technical info and official thread @ http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690505

Looks like this F21 M135i gets the exact same motor (and engine cosmetics/ECU) as the upcoming F30 335i PPK, i.e. ~320hp/330lb-ft of tq.

Ide be interested to know:

1)How much extra weight does the X-Drive add to the car

2)Is it available in manual

3)Most importantly, does the X-Drive take away from the rear wheel drive "perfect balance" feel of the M135i?

I've been a harsh critic of the way the new 1er looks, but I have to admit this 3-door M135 X-drive is quite delicious. I have a soft spot for small, fast, AWD, turbocharged hatchbacks.

It looks nice but I hate to admit that the new Mercedes A class looks far better. But A-class is FWD.

Yeah this car is perfect for even North America but clearly BMW doesn't have a clue in this regard. Lets just hope BMW doesn't screw up so bad that they also skip Canada, as these will sell like hot cakes IF they ever gave it a chance in NA they'd figure this out in no time.

What are you thinking BMW?

It may perform and all that, but it really failed on the looks department. Just on the front fascia though. I really can't get over on how the front looks with those droopy headlights. I've been trying my best to like it, even hoping that the front end to grow on me, but with no luck at all.

Don't get me wrong, the rear and sides are not bad though.

Ugly! I know it is personal opinion but those headlights, can they be any bigger? they consume the whole front end. Also, stance and the wheels are horrible. Sits too high and wheels looks too small for an M "wanna be" car.

Looks fantastic!

If you would bring them to the US, they would SELL!

Load me up an Alpine White 5-door with those sweet cloth seats!

I read the M135i xDrive had 0-100 as 4.7 secs.

If this came to the UK in RHD I may consider swapping from 1M. (may!)

Since your 1M is already doing that or probably even better you shouldn't Seriously, if you need an xDrive due to road/climate conditions then this is a better choice for you without a doubt.

From the German BMW web site I see some technical details of this car as well as rear drive M135i details. It seems to me that the xDrive will be offered only in auto cause there are no data for a manual there. So, you may consider if you want an auto box too. Yet another important difference vs. the 1M.

Anyone who wonders how much more it weighs? It weighs 1590 kg. vs. 1570 in 1M and just 1500 kg. in M135i manual. So a 90 kg. difference between the two versions. To make it more apples to apples: an auto box M135i is quoted 1515 kg. so the real difference of the xDrive system is 75 kg.

Maybe a moderator can add these additional data to initial post for easier reading.
