I got them to price match there top level of cover for £115. There headline price for it was £1200. I thought there was some value to having gap with a BMW dealer as they can help you through the process of getting a replacement car.

Well I went into the dealer and this is what happened.
Basically told the salesman that I was looking to order a F20 116i M Sport and asked if he could get me some figures. We specced the car (which on the configurator comes to £24,390) and I told him about the various offers that other dealers have on and about the deal I was offered on the 118d M Sport. He went away to talk to his boss and come back to say that he would take my Focus as a deposit (£1k, I thnik its worth at least £1.5k btw) and then £299 per month. I told him I did't want to pay £299 and the deal I was offered on the 118d prevously was better even with the additional £1.5k I would have to pay as a deposit as the car is £1960 more expensive. He then went onto say if I could get you the 118d for £299 per month with my car as a deposit, have we got a deal. I explained I can't do a deal until Saturday but re-iterated that I was keen. I said for the 116i, I only want to pay £280 per month and he said that he couldnt do any more at that point and that we would touch base later in the week. He re-iterated all along that they wanted my business and would better any deal eslewhere. Looking at the figures the 118d deal seems a better one, even if I can get the 116i for £280. Thoughts and opinions please! |

He used a key word. IF. You say yes, then he comes back and says "Right, couldnt quite do 299, the best we can do is...." 299 for the diesel, i think that's a reasonable deal. The GFV will be slightly higher on that . Reverse his tactics, say 280 and you've got a deal. You have a strong position now, as you can just ring round the dealers and say that's what you've been offered, they all need to offer you something better than that.

per month £326- i feel now i should have bartered some more- however, i'm still happy |

Thanks for this.
On paper my 'possible' 116i deal looks rather decent. My aim would be to get a service pack in to seal the deal. I was thinking of asking for front PDC but have a feeling that might be a mick take! The other 118d deal he mentioned looks even better though even at an additonal £20 per month I would be getting £1960 more car for £960! aaaggggggghhhhh! |

You really are agonising about this, how long has it been? :-)
Book a test drive of the 118d and 116 back to back, and decide accordingly re the £20 difference. One thing against the diesel is engine noise at idle otherwise all good. |

I obtained a deal over the phone. ...they even quoted a PX price on the car I bought from them a year before way exceeding the local dealers offer (by £1750!) Documentation has been emailed to me. Deposit paid by card over the phone. I will need to attend the premises once beforehand to sign the finance documents and then once more when I collect the car. My spec is: 116d SE in Alpine white with Oyster leather Driver comfort pack with front sensors added Interior comfort pack Run-flat tyres on standard alloys Seat heating front Rain sensor with auto headlight activation 5 year service inclusive

Having slept on it last night I think I am going to go for the 118d if they can do it at £299 per month as it seems a much better deal than the 116i. For the sake of £20 a month, I will save that on fuel as the car is guaranteed to achieve at least 53mpg as I had a 118d before. I can't guarantee that the 116i will do 44mpg. The diesel is only £15 more to insure but £90 a year less to tax so in the long run will work out cheaper to run. Im expecting the dealer to call me back tomorrow. |

The sales people at premium brands dealers are very well trained to keep the price at certain level, because price itself is appart of that premium image |

The salesman has just called me today to touch base and to re-iterate that they really want my custom and that he can beat any other deal.
I made him aware that having slept on it I was more likely to go for the 118d but wanted to pay less than £299 a month for it. He told me about a 118d M Sport in Estoril Blue that the dealer had been allocated for the Olympic's which is due to arrive and they are going to fit performance parts to it but it has to sit in the showroom until the Olympics is over. I wonder what these performance parts are? If he could do me a deal then I could hold on! Probably go back up at the weekend and sit down face to face. |

Performance parts are a series of retro fits like spoilers and carbod interior trim that make the car look more like something fit for the race track.

Olympic car sounds enticing and rather intriguing. But as noted be careful, as they may try to charge a premium and also it may have different options from the ones your are keenest on. Good luck.

I have no idea what spec the car is so its extremely likely that mine will have to be ordered for the options I want.
The salesman took me to their compound to show me a couple of M Sports in the flesh and I must say, the front end is very agressive. Both cars were white though with leather so I wouldn't mind seeing the standard interior. |
