New member, BMW 116d

Hi, I'm new on this forum so I thought to say something about what I recently ordered as my first car.
Im just 17 years old and from Norway, so maybe some typos.
The production will now begin this week, and I should have it delivered to my 18th birthday on 31st of July. The car is OFC a BMW, here is some information about it:

It will be a 2013 BMW 116d in Valencia Orange with M-sport.
The spec:

- Valencia Orange
- Sport seats in exclusive cloth/Alcantara, Individual anthrazit roof-lining
- M-Sport package
- 18" M light alloy wheels Star-spoke 386 M
- M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons
- BMW Individual Shadowline
- Interior trim in Fine Brushed Aluminium with high-gloss Black accent lines
- Shortened gear lever with M logo
- Adaptive M-Sport suspension (Eco-Pro, Comfort, Sport, Sport + mode)
- Drive comfort package
- Park distance control front and rear
- Dynamic cruise control
- Adaptive drive package
- Sunroof
- Sun protected windows
- Xenon
- Light package
- DAB+ Radio
- HiFi Harman/Kardon
++

Then it would be looking something like this:

Im so exited to get this car, and i can barely wait to get it!
Say what you mean about it?

(If someone would help me translate the full spec list from Norwegian to English, so send me a PM)

Very nice first car! It is actually well over 100 times more expensive than my first car! :-)

Yes, we are very pleased with the car. It was even better than expected at the race track.

Driven the new Rudskogen track?

Have you driven the 116d to see the difference between them?

I've driven the 16i and 16d, and the 16d is definately a bit slower, as the figures suggest. But its not a huge difference in everydays driving, more the 16i's advantage of a longer rev-band of turbo-power .

Yes, I drove the 116i at Rudskogen during the E30meet. I also drove the slalom track at Gardermoen a few days before.

I have driven the 116d (not M Sport) at an ice racing track in Sweden this winter. The diesel engine is slightly less powerful at low RPM and high RPM, but is pulling strong from 2000-3000 RPM. It is more than fast enough for Norwegian roads.

Thats what i thougt. But i think i'll be fine with the diesel engine anyway

What was your time on Rudskogen? Did you use semi-slicks or normal tyres?

Valencia is a bold and great colour for the F20, and you won't see it on every corner.
You picked all the right options. The 18" 386 Star spoke are the coolest F20 wheels. Only thing I would have missed is the Navi pro, but you probably know all the streets in and around Hønefoss anyway

Looking forward to seeing pictures in August. Sweet waiting

That exactly why i ordered the color, i like it really much!
I also think Its the coolest rims for this car
I thought about having NAVI or not, but i chose to drop it because i will drive mostly in the places i know well
Really looking forward to get this car, and ofc. pictures will come as soon as it arrives!

I prefer the 18" 386 over the 17" 383 too, but I decided to rather put the 500€ in the adaptive headlights instead . If I feel the urge to put on bigger wheels, I can do that later, unlike the adaptive headlights.

I got the 17" myself, because I was afraid that M-suspension and 18" with low profile tires would be a too stiff setup.
I soon discovered that I made a wrong choice, as the setup is quite soft and comfortable. So the 383's will be my new winterwheels, and be replaced with those 18" 386's next spring

I found the default setup ("comfort") too soft and knew I would only be driving in sport mode. Instead of spending money on the adaptive suspension I stayed with the standard fixed M suspension

My time around Rudskogen was 1:53 with regular 205-tires.

I see, looking forward to test the Sport+ mode so i can tell the difference.

Okay, have you thought about getting some semi-slicks?
I would like to try and see the difference on a track with normal tyres and some slicks. Also test the different modes

No, I think the car is just fine with regular tires. I have had semi slicks on some of my previoius cars, and I don't really like it. You get more body roll, and typically have to upgrade the suspension to be too stiff for normal roads. It is also common to get problems with oil and fuel delivery because of the increased G-forces. You gain a couple of seconds per lap, but it's not worth it.

I didn't test any other modes on the track either. For this use, only one setting is relevant, and that is Sport (or Sport+) with DSC completely off.

I did however test Sport+ (DTC enabled) on the ice track. It is working quite well.

Okay
I bet Its fun to drive on the track anyways, i an going to test it with normal tyres first, and maybe if i find something cheap i will buy slicks just to try it.

I think im going to drive much with Sport+ and with redused driving stabilities.
Looks like great fun to drive on a ice track

Driving on ice tracks is a very good way of learing car control, while driving on race tracks is i nice way of learing the concept of ideal lines and where to focus your eyes. It should have been mandatory to get a license to drive!
