Simple device to power your car accessories
Sorry about the vague title. Just thought to contribute to the group. Here in the picture is a very simple thing. On one side we got a 8-batteries holder putting out around 12V. In the middle there is plug the same as the cigarette lighter, and on the other hand end I have a little radar detector thing I was fixing and powering by the battery pack.
It was made originally to power the on board car camera and use it in place of GO PRO in my karting sessions. I will eventually buy a Go Pro camera (which I find expensive), but for starters I just wanted to review my lines.... BTW I use clay to stick the little camera to my helmet, no suction cup. BTW these radar things don't work well. They're just a GPS with built in coordinates where the speed cameras are. They do not do the detecting they claim. |

I have noticed that dashboard cameras are getting increasingly popular, and also rather affordable. I am tempted to install one, but haven't really found a good place for it. Do any of you guys have cameras permanently installed, and where did you put it?

Hello ovekvam,
These onboard cameras are necessary for us because we have the highest density of mopads and traffic incidents are likely, it helps us build a case. Please see pictures for my placement and routing the wire. Our cars cigarette lighter stays on, so I guess you want one that has a switch already or runs on battery. Mine doesn't so you can see in the picture I have to wire one myself. Japanese cars turn themselves off, lots more of them around here. I used up the clear double sided tape, so it can look better. I think the voltage from the cigarette lighter eventually turns itself off. I sometimes have my Tomtom navigation plugged in, and I have noticed that it turns itself on when I open the door locks with the remote key.

I have my tomtom connected all the time and it turns off automatically when the cigarette plug drops power after 10-15 after I locked the car. It then powers up instantly when the cigarette plug does as I remotely unlock the car.
